2 ENROLLMENTS On-line enrollment will begin October 1 st for all members and leaders. We are asking everyone to complete enrollment by November 15 th so staff can approve enrollments quicker. MEMBERS: You will need to go into your family profile and update your information. If you know of new members wanting to join, please have them go to Remember, you must use a web browser like Google Chrome or Firefox. DO NOT USE Internet Explorer!!! LEADERS: You will need to go into your profile and update your information as well. Remember you must do three things to be a volunteer: 1) Enroll online please do this first 2) Complete annual background check consent form (new leaders only) and submit to the Extension Center. 3) Complete one-time volunteer orientation. We still have several volunteers who do not complete all three and are NOT a recognized volunteer! Please note If you are NOT serious about being a leader, DO NOT begin the process. It costs the state money to send postcards out and to run the background checks. We will lock enrollments on November 16 th. You will still be able to make changes until December 31 st, but must contact the office to do so. OPPORTUNITIES Project Leaders Needed Are you in need of a leader for your project? If so, contact the office and we will try to find one in another club. Also, if you are a project leader and are willing to take kids from other clubs, let us know. Project & Club Meeting Responsibility Parents are strongly encouraged to see that 4-H members attend project meetings and their monthly club meetings. Page 2 Remember that you only get out of 4-H what you put in it. Also, project leaders commit their time to teaching 4-H members and common courtesy should be shown if parents are going to be late or if members can't attend at all. Building Our American Communities Grant (BOAC) Each year, this program provides 4-H clubs and FFA Chapters up to $500 for improvements in the local community. For applications, go to mda.mo.gov. Deadline to apply is December 1. Kids Helping Kids Kids Helping Kids is a fundraising campaign developed by the Missouri 4-H Foundation. It is devoted to helping 4-H families in financial need because of a natural disaster such as fire, flood, tornado or medical emergencies. Any 4-H member, family or club may contribute. For more information, contact the office. Frank Graham Leadership Fund The Frank Graham 4-H Volunteer Leader Fund is to support the work of Missouri s 4-H Volunteers in guiding our young people. The fund will be used to develop programs and recognize 4-H volunteers. For more information, contact the office. Lincoln County Extension Council The mission of University of Missouri Extension is to improve Missourians lives by addressing their highest priorities through the application of research based knowledge and resources. A county Extension council member helps to meet these educational needs and oversees the operations of the local Extension office. The Lincoln County Extension Council is seeking nominations to run for the council. If you are interested, contact the office at Montgomery County Requirements With several new families in 4-H, this is a great time to remind everyone of the Montgomery County requirements. To exhibit at the County Fair, a 4-H member must have attended seven club meetings and be in good standing with both their club and the County 4-H program by July 1. In order to complete the 4-H year and receive your pin, the member must attend seven meetings and complete one project.
3 To complete a project, the member must fill out and turn in a project record. One missed club meeting can be made up by attending a 4-H Council Meeting. For more information on this, consult the blue requirement form signed at the beginning of the 4-H year. Montgomery County Officer Training Club officer training for Montgomery County will take place on November 14 at the Extension Center. All 4-H club officers from across the county are invited to attend Montgomery County Fair Changes The livestock schedule will be the same as Grand and Reserve champions of each species are required to stay all week. All other livestock will be released after the livestock sale. Exhibitors have until 9 p.m. Thursday to remove their animals. Livestock entry fee will increase to $10. There will be only ONE vehicle pass per family. Livestock exhibitors WILL NOT have to purchase a season pass. Wednesday admission will be $10, Thursday will be $15, Friday & Saturday will be $20. Family pricing will be as follows: 6 & under free, $10, 13 & up full gate admission. Season passes will cost $30 until January 31, 2018 and can then be purchased for $40 after that date. Camping prices will remain the same. There will only be ONE vehicle pass per camping form. If you have questions, please contact Ed Cope at Missouri Association of Fairs & Festivals Scholarship The Missouri Association of Fairs and Festivals (MAFF) is pleased to announce the availability of a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Staats Awards and administered by the MAFF Presidents. Potential applicants must be a spring of 2018 graduate. The fair recommending the applicant must be a member of Missouri Association of Fairs & Festivals. A listing of member fairs and the application is available from at Applications must be postmarked by November 27, The scholarship will be awarded in January, For additional information, please contact Elizabeth Schlueter at Warren County 4-H Club Officer Training All officers are invited to a training on November 15 at 6 p.m. at the Extension Center. All officer positions will be Page 3 included in the games, training and fun! Refreshments will be served. RSVP by November 10 to Warren County Rabbit Meeting The first project meeting will be on Monday January 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Center. Starting in February, meetings will be on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Center. Attention All Warren County Livestock Exhibitors The livestock committee has approved Market Heifers for the 2018 Warren County Fair. All market beef will show together with classes divided by weights. All species weight limits will remain in place for 2018 as well. Questions? Plan to attend our next meeting on November 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Extension Center. Dinner will be provided. Teen leaders always falls on the 3 rd Tuesday of the month. Christmas caroling date to be announced soon. All 4-H Members Make sure to fill out, sign and return your BLUE Requirement to complete the year/show form. If you have questions about this form, contact the Extension Office. Open Youth Horse Show Warren County will host a makeup show/membership drive on November 3 starting at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Please contact Brenda Wasser for early entry information. The show is open to current members 8 and up and any potential members with horse project interest. All Warren, Lincoln, & Montgomery county members are invited to attend. Invite friends to come try it out! This is a fun show for practice no points. Classes will be: Mare Halter, Gelding Halter, Showmanship, Walk Pleasure, Walk Horsemanship, Walk/Trot Hunter Under Saddle, W/T/C Hunter Under Saddle, Walk Trot Equitation, W/T/C Equitation, Walk Trot Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Walk Trot Horsemanship, W/T/C Horsemanship, Walk Trot Trail, Barrels and Poles.
4 Lincoln County First Year Shooting Sports Members MUST attend the 4-H Shooting Sports Safety Class and obtain the Shooting Sports Safety Card in order to be able to shoot in their shooting sports project. You only need to attend one of these classes to participate in the shooting sports projects for the rest of your 4-H career. ALL 4-H members must sign up for and attend Project SS740 Shooting Sports Safety class, which this project does not count toward the project limit for any age group. Please review the important dates included with the November newsletter, What is Happening in Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports? for the dates. Please contact the Lincoln County Extension Office, (636) , or Theresa Pope, (636) , to reserve your place at one of the classes. Please indicate how many member(s) and parent(s) or guardian(s) will be in attendance at the class, so that we may know how many to expect at each class. Also, please let Theresa Pope know your address at so that you will start receiving notifications for shooting sports. Thank you! Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports Facebook page Join the Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports Facebook page group. Submit your request to join and keep updated on the upcoming events. Submit your pictures shooting at project meetings, the Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports Meet, or the Missouri State Shooting Sports Meet. Let Theresa Pope know if you have any ideas of what you would like to see on the page. What is happening in Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports? Important Dates and Information We are having the annual calendar fundraiser with MO 4-H Shooting Sports and Friends of NRA! We will be selling the calendar raffle tickets as soon as they are available. When we have flyers and calendars available, we will let you know. The Committee and Leaders voted that each shooting sports project member is required to sell two calendars or opt out by paying $30, which is the same amount the county program Page 4 will receive from the sale of the two calendars. Meeting this requirement is part of being a shooting sports member in good standing. It is required to be a member in good standing to participate in the county and/or state shoots. We have this one fundraiser each year as we would like to be able to continue to buy our own targets, medals and support our shooting sports projects. The calendars will be for sale sometime in March or April through mid-may. The opt out money will be due when the calendar money is due, which will be some time in mid-may. We are having the annual 2018 Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports t-shirt design contest. Shooting sports members are encouraged to design a t-shirt(s) for our county program. Designs are due to the Extension Office by Friday, March 30, Members and parents vote on the winning shirt. Purchasing the shirts is voluntary and not mandatory. See the flyer for more details. Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports Committee/Leader meeting It is Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Lincoln County Extension Office at 7:00 p.m. First Year Shooting Sports Members must attend the 4-H Shooting Sports Safety Class (SS740) and obtain the Shooting Sports Safety Card in order to be able to shoot in their shooting sports project (discipline). Attendance is once in a member s 4- H career, and it is recommended, but not required, that 8 and 9 year olds attend the class a second time. Please do not forget to sign up for this project (SS740) on 4HOnline. Please sign up for a shooting sports project, too, like archery, air rifle, etc. The 4-H Shooting Sports Safety Class (project #SS740) is required for first time shooting sports members. It does not count towards the project limit for 4-H members. Please sign up for this project on 4HOnline. It will be held on two different Saturdays, but members only need attend one class or the other. The dates are January 27, 2018 and March 10, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lincoln County Extension Office. There will be an hour break for lunch. You may bring a brown bag lunch or go out to lunch. If either of the dates is cancelled due to bad weather, the make up date is Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the same time and location.
5 Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports Committee/Leader meeting Lincoln County Judging & Achievement Day The date is to be determined (TBD) and is usually held at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic School Cafeteria. The Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports project members are encouraged to do a demonstration and judging. Lincoln County Fair It is the week of July 10, 2018 to July 14, The Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports project members are encouraged to show up to four projects for each enrolled discipline. They must enter projects from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall. Lincoln County Fair Parking Lot The Lincoln County 4-H Shooting Sports parents and older members are asked to work the parking lot on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. If anyone is willing to help any other night, please let Theresa Pope know as additional help is always welcome. Lincoln County Shooting Sports Meet and Promo Day It will be Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Lolar Branch Outdoor Sports LLC, 4775 Hwy. You will need to visit to complete your market livestock registration for the 2018 Lincoln County Fair. This can be completed between Wednesday, November 1 and Sunday, December 31, 2017 before 3 PM. During this process, you will need to create a user name and password per exhibitor. Please retain this information as the livestock committee will not have access to this and it cannot be retrieved. Each animal that you plan to exhibit must be registered. For example, if you plan to exhibit 2 steers and 2 hogs, you must have a total of 4 animals registered. Upon registration completion, you will receive a confirmation receipt indicating the quantity of each species to be exhibited (example below). Additionally, Livestock Entry registration for the fair will open May 1, 2018 and close May 31, During this time, you will enter the tag numbers for the animals weighed in or planned for the fair, as well as purchase exhibitor and adult season passes. 6 REMINDERS 4-H Council Meetings Page 6 CONGRATULATIONS State Public Speaking Congratulations to Ava Engemann for placing 2 nd in Intermediate Extemporaneous Speaking and to Izabella Freymuth for being a semi-finalist. Both are from Montgomery County. County 4-H programs operate under the direction of a governing 4-H Council. The Council in each county is comprised of representatives from each club and coordinates the planning of countywide activities and the development and management of the resources to support the program. The Council needs your support so please make sure club representatives attend the meetings. Dates and times are given in COMING EVENTS. Cashing Checks Club leaders and treasurers please make sure you are cashing checks as soon as you can. Some 4-H council checks are not cashed for months, or in some cases never cashed! State Fashion Revue Congratulations to Hattie Franklin, Lincoln County, for placing 2 nd in Intermediate Clothes You Buy. Lincoln County Livestock Judging Team Congratulations to Lexi Plackemeier, Reed Bruns, Kolton Orth and Caleb Hudson for placing 1 st in the beef division at Ak-Sar-Ben and for placing 10 th overall at the American Royal.
