1 Spanish 2311 Instructor: Dina Lopez Cell: BC Phone: (Ann Montgomery-Division Secretary) Catalogue Description Span 2312-This course is designed for students who wish to learn the fine points of grammar as well as extend their vocabulary. Students receive instruction in literature and culture through readings and classroom discussions in Spanish. Prerequisites: SPAN 1412 or two or more credits in high school Spanish. Learning Outcomes for Spanish 2311 Intermediate Spanish I LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR SPANISH 2311 INTERMEDIATE SPANISH I 1. Students will demonstrate comprehension of authentic spoken discourse produced by Spanish speakers of diverse origins. Assessment: Students will be able to answer questions on auditory portions of all exams. Students will increase their listening ability to the ACTFL intermediate low to intermediate mid-range proficiency. Passing rate is 70%. 2. Students will produce oral Spanish comprehensible to native speakers using complex grammatical structures to narrate, describe, and elicit information. Assessment: Students will be able to answer questions and describe themselves and situations in 2-4 oral exams. Students will increase their speaking ability to the ACTFL intermediate low to intermediate mid-range proficiency. Passing rate is 70%. 3. Students will demonstrate increasing comprehension of authentic written texts in a variety of genres. Assessment: Students will read a variety of assignments at home and answer questions. Students will be able to read sections on written exams and answer questions about the readings Students will increase their listening ability to the ACTFL intermediate low to intermediate mid-range proficiency. Passing rate is 70%. 4. Students will write descriptions and narratives at a low intermediate level using complex grammatical structures. 1
2 Assessment: Students will have a variety of homework assignments 4-8 in which they write descriptions and narratives. Students will increase their writing ability to the ACTFL intermediate low to intermediate mid-range proficiency. Passing rate is 70%. 5. Students will formulate cohesive paragraphs and short/simple essays. Assessment: Students will write cohesive paragraphs and short essays on all major exams. Students will increase their writing ability to the ACTFL intermediate low to intermediate midrange proficiency. Passing rate is 70%. 6. Students will describe cultural practices and products of the Spanish-speaking world drawing on authentic materials including literature and the visual arts. Assessment: Students will be able to discuss and react to literary and visual arts in classroom discussions and/or in writing. Passing rate is 70%. Textbook MySpanishLab with Pearson etext Access Code Card for McMinn, John T., and Alonso Garcia, Nuria. Hoy Dia: Spanish for Real Life. Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson Education, Print. It is not required to buy the paperback textbook. The Card with Access Code will allow you to use the e-book. Everything is on the website. This code is good for 24 months.
