2 JOB PROFILE CLASSROOM TEACHER Responsible to: Grade: Learning Leader DT Main scale teacher PURPOSE OF POST: To facilitate and encourage learning which enables students to achieve the highest possible standards: to share and support the corporate responsibility for the well-being, education and discipline of all students. DIMENSIONS: Accountable for: Students: Staff: Resources: ICT equipment. All students None All physical resources they use including classrooms, teaching materials and PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Planning, Teaching and Class Management 1. To prepare and teach lessons of a high standard to all students in their classes so that students achieve the targets they are set. 2. With the guidance from the relevant Teaching and Learning Leaders, participate in all CPD activities that will improve personal performance in any aspect associated with classroom teaching and professional knowledge. 3. To take part in the school s Performance Management process and enter into a professional discussion with their line manager about their strengths as a teacher and any areas which are in need of improvement. 4. Address any areas of weaker performance, taking advice from their line manager and actively engaging in any actions that might be suggested. 5. To participate positively in the Schools Quality Assurance Cycle which includes agreed lesson observations in order for the school to develop and improve the overall quality of teaching.

3 Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting 1. To follow designated programmes of study, carry out all assessments and marking, recording, reporting and target setting in line with departmental and school policy. Pastoral Duties 1. At all times ensure that students are subscribing to school policies in terms of behaviour, appearance, academic work and social interaction and follow the guidelines given in the staff handbook if any pupil is infringing these policies. Other Professional Requirements 1. Work as a team member within the department, sharing ideas and resources and asking for guidance and help from fellow teachers when necessary. Resource Management 1. To take a shared responsibility to ensure the accommodation in which teaching takes place is vibrant and conducive to learning. 2. To ensure that all department resources used are kept in good order and any defects are quickly reported to the Head of Department. Knowledge and Skills At all times, there must be demonstrable knowledge and understanding of: The principles and practices of excellent learning and teaching The specialist subject area The application of ICT to learning, teaching in the specialist subject The use of past and current pupil data in order to improve Statutory requirements and recent developments in terms of government initiatives and policy

In order to promote and achieve the school vision and purpose the teacher should meet all standards as per Teacher Standards in Wales from September Crickhowell High School is committed to working in wider partnership which will promote wellbeing outcomes for young people.

5 Safeguarding Context All teaching staff are part of a whole school team. They are required to support the values and ethos of the school and school priorities as defined in the School Development Plan. This will mean focussing on the needs of colleagues, parents and students and being flexible in a busy pressurised environment. Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. Therefore, it is essential in making your application you disclose whether you have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and, if so, for which offences. This post will be exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders 1974 (Exemptions) (Amendments) Order Therefore, applicants are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are spent under the provision of the Act, and, in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the school. The fact that a pending charge, conviction, bind-over or caution has been recorded against you will not necessarily debar you from consideration for this appointment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers.

6 Generic Job Description Main Scale Teacher GRADE: Main Scale Job Purpose You are employed at Crickhowell High School in the capacity of a teacher and your conditions of service are controlled by the latest version of the School Teacher s Pay and Conditions of Employment regulations. General Duties The general professional duties of a teacher are stated in the School Teacher s Pay and Conditions of Employment regulations. Under the section of reasonable direction, as a teacher at Crickhowell High School you are expected to: be familiar with, and work within the policies of the school work towards the vision, aims and objectives of the school take part in the specific duty and other administrative arrangements as outlined in the staff handbook follow the administrative instructions issued through the staff bulletin and other memoranda follow at all times the standards of professional behaviour as outlined in the staff handbook make a full contribution to the life of the school Main Focus 1. Teaching 1.1 Plan work in accordance with department schemes of work and National Curriculum programmes of study. 1.2 Liaise with relevant colleagues on the planning of units of work for collaborative delivery. 1.3 Work in collaboration with Teaching Assistants attached to any teaching group. 1.4 Take account of students prior levels of attainment and use them to set targets for future improvements. 1.5 Set work for students absent from school for health or disciplinary reasons. 1.6 Maintain good discipline by adherence to the advice given to staff in the staff handbook and elsewhere. 1.7 Set high expectations for students behaviour by establishing a purposeful working atmosphere in accordance with the school s behaviour code. 1.8 Set appropriate and demanding expectations for students learning, motivation and presentation of work. 1.9 Maintain an attractive and stimulating classroom environment and contribute to displays in the school as a whole Set meaningful and challenging homework Use a variety of teaching and learning styles. 2. Assessment, recording and reporting 2.1 Maintain notes and plans of lessons undertaken and records of students work. 2.2 Mark, monitor and return work within a reasonable and agreed time span providing constructive oral and written feedback and clear targets for future learning as appropriate.

7 2.3 Carry out assessment programmes (eg reports, regular monitoring) as agreed by the school or department. 2.4 Complete student progress files in line with policy. 2.5 Attend the appropriate parents consultations to keep parents informed as to the progress of their child. 2.6 Be familiar with the Code of Practice for identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs and keep appropriate records on Individual Education Plans for students. 3. Pastoral Work 3.1 Undertake responsibility for a tutor group as required including tutor/student interviews. 3.2 Be the first point of contact for parents of students in tutor group. 3.3 Monitor (and set targets for) the social and academic progress of the individuals in the tutor group. 3.4 Be prepared to undertake responsibility for delivery of the PSE programme to one or more tutor groups. 3.5 Promote good attendance and monitor in accordance with the school s attendance policy. 4. Professional Standards 4.1 Support the aims of the school to promote a learning community 4.2 Treat all members of the community, colleagues and students, with respect and consideration. 4.3 Treat all students fairly, consistently and without prejudice. 4.4 Set a good example to students in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance. 4.5 Promote the aims of the school by attendance at and participation in events such as open evenings, options evenings and the like (as appropriate to their responsibilities). 4.6 Support the ethos of the school by upholding the behaviour code, uniform regulations etc. 4.7 Take responsibility for their own professional development and participate in staff training when provided. 4.8 Reflect on their own practice as well as the practices of the school with the aim of improving all that we do. 4.9 Read and adhere to the various policies of the School Improvement Plan, the staff handbook, subject team/year team documentation etc Participate in the management of school by attending various team and staff meetings Undertake duties as prescribed within school policies Ensure that all deadlines are met as published in the school calendar/bulletin Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned to them by the head teacher Be proactive and take responsibility for matters relating to health and safety Participate in Performance Management arrangements according to school policy Participate in induction programmes for new staff and staff undertaking new responsibilities. 5. Health and Safety 5.1 Undergo Basic First Aid training and update courses. 5.2 Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions.

8 5.3 Co-operate with the employer on all issues to do with Health, Safety & Welfare. 5.4 Have an understanding of visits procedures and the relevant actions to take when planning out of school activities.
