2 This information is designed to enable parents, guardians and carers to have a clear idea of the expectations we have of our pupils. It is important that pupils are encouraged to maintain the highest possible standards regarding their presentation. The smart wearing of the school uniform is one way of projecting this image. The wearing of our school uniform is something all parents, guardians and carers agreed to support when they chose for their son or daughter s education. We are very grateful for the support we receive in upholding our uniform regulations. The changes to s uniform are designed to enhance and improve the look of the uniform. The new uniform is compulsory for all new pupils joining from September For female pupils who are currently enrolled and who will be in Years 6 to 11 from September 2017, the new, longer kilts are compulsory and for middle school boys, the new house ties are also compulsory. All other items can be phased in during the first year, but will be compulsory from September 2018 for all pupils. In order to clarify any queries you may have, the following lists should help parents, guardians and carers be aware of what is acceptable and what is not. Please ensure you read this or the relevant new joiners information packs before purchasing any new uniform items. Pupils will not be allowed to wear non-uniform items even if they have just been purchased. The Deputy Head Sixth Form, Deputy Head Middle School and Head of Prep will decide, at their discretion, on all matters concerning the interpretation of a pupil s dress code, including matters not specifically covered in the Uniform and Appearance Policy. If you are unsure about any uniform purchase, please contact your child s Head of Year, Tutor or Class Teacher. Sports and PE kit are supplied separately by Elmer Cotton Oxford. There is one uniform supplier to the school for pupils in Years 2 to 11. To ensure uniformity in material quality and colour, it is expected that all purchases of blazers, kilts, ties, boys trousers, V-neck jerseys and younger pupils pinafores, summer dresses and cardigans will be made from this supplier. 3 Prep School Uniform and Dress Code (Years 2 to 8) The dress code at Prep School is uniform for pupils in Years 2 to 8. Girls in Years 2-5 (/No) School blazer with school badge School pinafore School summer dress School pullover or cardigan The school blazer must be worn by pupils in Years 2 to 5 at all times Worn in winter and spring terms. If a coat is required, Elmer Cotton Oxford supply a very warm sports style overcoat which complements our uniform. It has the Seaford crest and can be embroidered with a pupil s name or initials. Any other (and home bought) overcoat or raincoat should be black or navy blue (this must be longer than the pupil s blazer) Prep School Boys Hair and Jewellery Jewellery - no rings, bracelets, necklaces or earrings Hair - short, not shaven, neat hair. Off the collar and not over the eyebrows. No sports tops Middle School - Make Up and Jewellery and Hair, Years 9 to 11 Pupils may not wear make up. Girls with pierced ears may wear gold/silver studs only one in each ear. Ear cuff piercings are not permitted. No other visible body piercing is allowed. At most one bracelet or charity band on each wrist. No tatty bands or festival bands. Girls hair must be tied back in one piece if it is shoulder length or longer. It should be of natural colour. Boys are not allowed to wear any skin piercing jewellery and no visible body piercing is allowed.

6 Sixth Form Dress Code (Years 12 and 13) Pupils may wear clothes of their own choosing within the guidelines laid down below. The concept for dress in the Sixth Form is smart office apparel. This is intended to reduce the competition factor amongst pupils and make life easier for both pupils and parents. 7 Sixth Form Make-Up and Jewellery and Hair Sixth Form girls may wear subtle make up. Neat, coloured, un-chipped nail varnish is also permitted. Girls with pierced ears may wear gold or silver studs (one in each ear). Ear cuff piercings are not permitted. No other visible body piercing is allowed (no eyebrow, nose, tongue, lip piercings etc). At the most one bracelet or charity band may be worn on each wrist. Tatty or festival bands are not permitted. Girls in the Sixth Form may wear their hair down as long as it is tidy. Boys are not allowed to wear any skin piercing jewellery and no visible body piercing is allowed. Boys Hair Senior School, Years 9-13 Pupils are to be smart and their hair tidy, with no extreme styling. Boys hair should be tidy and of reasonable shape, not artificially coloured, not streaked, and not falling below the collar. Boys hair should not be shaved at grade 2 or below. The fringe should not fall below the eyebrows. Boys should be clean shaven at all times. The College will ensure that for all pupils in the Middle School and Sixth Form (Years 9-13) Top shirt buttons must be done up when a tie is worn s must always be tucked in Coats may not be worn at Assembly or Chapel Trainers may not be worn with school uniform There is no make-up for Years 9-11 There is no excessive use of make-up for Years There are no extreme haircuts or styles or shaved eyebrows There are no visible body piercings for any pupil, except one pair of gold or silver studs (one in each ear) if a girl s ears are pierced Pupils must travel to and from school in full school uniform (not games or CCF kit), unless given explicit permission by a member of staff In the event (and usually in the first instance) of a pupil transgressing the College s Uniform Code, the Head of Year or Tutor will notify parents of a particular concern or issue. Further transgressions would lead to the pupil being placed on a uniform report card with a detention being given if a pupil s behaviour continues. In extreme cases, the pupil may be excluded from School and asked to return home until they are able to meet the appropriate dress code. The Deputy Heads reserve the right to make a final decision with regards to uniform, jewellery or hairstyles deemed to be unacceptable.
