1 Key Stage 2 Class Teacher Required for September The School Brambletye is an IAPS co-educational boarding/day school for pupils between the ages of 2 ½ and 13. Pupils are prepared for Common Entrance or Scholarship Examinations to a wide range of senior schools. The School was founded in 1919 at Sidcup Place, Kent and moved to its present site, just off the A22, one mile south of East Grinstead, in In 1969 it was formed into a charitable educational trust with a Board of Governors, which includes parents and Old Boys, with a range of academic and educational experience. The School facilities are centred on a large country house in the Ashdown Forest, in its own woodlands and extensive playing fields. The whole property covers 140 acres. The School has outstanding sporting, music, drama and arts facilities. These include an Art Room and Design Technology Workshop, a Library, an ICT Room, a large Theatre and Music Rooms. There is also a Sports Hall, tennis and netball courts, two squash courts, an indoor swimming pool and several playing fields. Aims of the School The School has established the following eight aims which guide every aspect of school life. 1. To provide academic and extra-curricular education of the highest quality for children aged 2 ½ to 13 years which can develop the abilities of all pupils allowing them to reach their potential. 2. To prepare pupils for pre-testing, Common Entrance exams at 13 years old and for academic scholarship. To inspire an understanding of the wisdom of the past and the technology of tomorrow s world and to strive to foster a strong and independent work ethic. 3. To instil in our pupils a life-long love of Music and the Performing Arts and to stimulate an interest and understanding of the Visual Arts and Design Technology.

To offer a varied and well-organised sporting programme, to promote individual and collective participation by all, regardless of ability, in order to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. 5. To remain fully committed to the merits of boarding life and to providing outstanding boarding facilities and a responsive pastoral care framework ensuring the safety and welfare of our pupils. 6. To instill and develop in our pupils qualities of character to see them through their lives beyond school. 7. To produce children who are not only talented and high achieving, but who are also generous of spirit, curious about the world and its inhabitants, alive to its possibilities and engaged with their role in it, with a balanced perspective on life allowing them to feel at ease with others. 8. To commit to the school s charitable role within both local and the wider community and to develop responsible citizens. 2. The Lower School at Brambletye The Lower School is a busy and vibrant part of the Prep school at Brambletye comprising of Years 3 and 4. As in the Pre-Prep, all the Year 3 and 4 classes have individual class teachers responsible for teaching Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, P.S.H.E.E. and Religious Studies. Other subjects such as Music, I.C.T., P.E. and Art are taught by specialist teachers. The class teachers are also responsible for the wellbeing and pastoral care of the pupils in their form class and provide a first point of contact for parents. The teaching and learning in Years 3 and 4 is managed by the Head of Lower school who works closely with the Deputy Head (Academic), Head of Pre-Prep and the Heads of Department within the Prep school to ensure continuity in the progress and attainment of pupils, curriculum planning, assessment and tracking. Years 3 and 4 are guided by the KS2/ISEB 11+ Curriculum. The Lower School teachers also work with the Head of Lower school on the pastoral care of the pupils, who in turn reports to the Deputy Head (pastoral). The pupils in the Lower School take part in a full Games programme, with daily practice sessions and competitive sports fixtures against on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. In addition to Games, pupils also participate in a varied and extensive programme of extracurricular activities.

The Post In the post of KS2 Classroom Teacher, the successful candidate would be expected to teach a full timetable (including Saturdays), participate in the Games and extra-curricular programmes and undertake appropriate supervisory duties. The post would be on a permanent basis, subject to the school s standard probationary period. On-site accommodation at the school may be available for the successful candidate. 4. Principal Duties It is the responsibility of a KS2 Class Teacher to: Maintain high expectations of the pupils in their care; Deliver inspiring and engaging lessons; Differentiate lessons in accordance with the needs of the pupils in the class, supporting those of varying ability; Prepare short and medium term teaching plans based upon the curriculum documents for each of the subjects being taught; Assess, record, track and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils; Creative and maintain a positive and attractive learning environment, including displays of pupils current and recent work; Maintain good order in the classroom and around the school with due regard to the school s policy on behaviour and discipline; Promote and safeguard the welfare of the pupils for whom you are responsible and in the wider school community; Be proactive in communications with parents on academic and pastoral matters; Attend parents evenings; Organise appropriate offsite trips and excursions to further enhance the learning experiences of pupils; Attend school meetings (e.g. whole staff meetings, Lower School meetings); Work closely with the other teachers in the year group; Work closely with the Head of Lower School to further develop the teaching and learning in Years 3 and 4;

4 Keep informed of the Learning Development needs of pupils in their care, supporting those with specific learning difficulties and making appropriate adjustments to lessons when required; Be involved with the school s Games and extra-curricular programmes; Undertake appropriate whole-school duties (e.g. break supervision); Provide cover for other lessons, when required; Attend the school s termly INSET programme ; Be a positive role model to pupils; and Carry out additional duties as required by the Headmaster or Deputy Headmasters, commensurate with the post. 5. Candidates should: Be educated to Degree Level; Be a fully qualified teacher or NQT; Have experience of teaching the appropriate subjects at Key Stage 2 level; Understand, accept and promote Brambletye s vision and values; Be a passionate classroom practitioner as well as being innovative, creative, resilient and dynamic; Be able to create a warm, positive and motivating learning experience for pupils; Be able to plan engaging lessons for all the pupils in a class, setting clear learning intentions and differentiated tasks; Be able to keep tracking records of pupil progress in line with school policy; Be able to use assessments of pupils learning to inform future planning; Be able to plan and work collaboratively with colleagues; Be an effective communicator; Be able to work independently; Possess excellent organisational and ICT skills; Be willing to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school, including the coaching of Games;

5 Be able to evidence their personal commitment to CPD; and Have a consistent expectation of high standards, coupled with patience and a ready sense of humour. 6.
