2 SANITATION BEGINS AT SCHOOL Kendriya Vidyalaya Ukhrul shows serious concern towards school sanitation as part of the new National School Sanitation Initiative (NSSI) being implemented by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and also as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Our school has implemented regular cleanliness drives in school and its surrounding areas. The initiative is aimed at having better sanitation in school and also to inculcate good sanitation habits among the children. However, since our school in this region has less facilities, resources and minimal safe drinking water provisions, additional initiative of rain water harvesting structures have been installed in the school. School ensures proper sanitation in toilets and arrangements for clean and safe drinking water for students. The school toilets are cleaned daily and inspected by the teachers. Inside the toilet there is a bucket, a mug and running water. Students are trained in good sanitation habits. The surprise inspections have revealed that the school toilets had satisfactory sanitation conditions. Here, parents are very much concerned about the hygiene of their wards. And thanks to the decentralization process, the principals can take a decision on infrastructure enhancement at their own level, and they have employed outside agencies for their regular upkeep. School has entrusted an outside agency to clean and maintain the school infrastructure. The staff from the agency cleans the school and the premises for two hours after class hours daily. Three big water tanks have been kept so that students get enough and clean drinking water. Even the water tanks are cleaned every month and the date due for the next cleaning is mentioned. The school reassert the message of Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya.

3 CLEANLINESS INITIATIVE The school takes up the following activities to maintain good sanitation: Talk by the principal, teachers and a few children on different aspects of cleanliness in the school assembly. Cleaning of classrooms, laboratories, library, etc. Cleaning of toilets and drinking water areas. Cleaning of playground. Cleaning and maintenance of school garden. Plantation of saplings in school compound. Organizing essay, painting, debate, song, skit competitions, nukkad naatak, etc. on cleanliness and hygiene. Organizing film shows, model activities on hygiene. Constitution of ECO club to supervise and monitor the cleanliness drive. All of the above would appreciate and inculcate the spirit of hygiene, cleanliness and aversion to unhygienic conditions in all our children from the very initial years of their schooling itself, so that every child in the country appreciates the value of good, clean and hygienic living.
