3 Welcome to All Saints Catholic College All Saints Catholic College is an voluntary aided school. We strive to offer the very best educational and life opportunities to our students, engendering high standards of achievement within our inclusive Catholic ethos. At All Saints, we believe in providing the highest possible level of teaching, learning, care and support. All Saints Catholic College exists to meet the needs of those who seek a distinctive Catholic education. We pride ourselves on offering learning based on the teachings and values of Jesus Christ. We aim to provide opportunities to nurture and develop the Faith handed down to us by the Catholic Church. In serving God, and one another, we encourage everyone to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations. 5 Curriculum & Learning in the Classroom Pupils appreciate the benefits of belonging to All Saints Catholic community and actively participate in the school s mission. Pupil behaviour is outstanding around the school. Section 48 Inspection 2018 LEARNING The most important part of any student s experience at All Saints Catholic College is their learning. We aim to provide the best possible teaching to facilitate the learning of our students. We are constantly employing new strategies and training our staff to ensure they help our students learn to the best of their individual abilities. We regularly monitor the progress of all our students. This process starts during primary transition, and continues until they receive their GCSE results in Year 11. Regular assessments inform teaching and learning as well as providing opportunities for support and challenge where needed. We have a wide range of support strategies to help all our students achieve their potential, including mentoring, extra classes, one to one tuition, assessment advice, student conferences and meetings with parents on how best to help their children. KEY STAGE 3 (YEARS 7 & 8) Courses for all students include: Maths, English, Science, Religious Education, French, History, Geography, Physical Education, Art, Music, Drama, Technology, Information Technology, PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, and Citizenship Education), and Careers. Through these programmes of study, students learn the skills and processes of particular disciplines, as well as making links to the wider curriculum. I was scared at first because I had so many different teachers but they were all really nice and I settled in very quickly. Adam, Year 7 KEY STAGE 4 (YEARS 9, 10 & 11) Courses for all students include: Maths, English Language and Literature, Science, Information Technology, Physical Education and Religious Education. In Key Stage 4, students are also able to choose subjects that constitute the English Baccalaureate and from a wide range of GCSE subjects. ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC COLLEGE PROSPECTUS

6 Pastoral care, guidance, support & Wellbeing School leaders have refocused the school s expectations regarding pupils behaviour for learning that foster a safe and respectful culture. Ofsted 2017 LEARNING TUTORS All our students are placed in tutor groups where they are assigned a learning tutor. The tutor is the primary link between the students and home. They act as a mentor and role model for the students in their form. This work is supported by an achievement coordinator, the Behaviour for Learning Team and staff in our STAR Centre, who work closely with all our students in the year group, to help them overcome any barriers to their learning, enjoyment and achievement. SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE We pride ourselves on providing a supportive, inclusive and nurturing environment for our students. Central to this is the work of the STAR Centre, where staff provide one to one support for the varied needs of our students. We also have an on-site chaplain who takes an active role in pastoral support. TRANSITION In order to help our students make the step from primary to secondary education, we have a series of transitional events. These begin in Year 3 and continue through Years 4, 5 and 6. We have events at All Saints to which our future students are invited. Staff and current students also enjoy visiting primary schools, to get to know the students and answer any questions they may have about All Saints. Transition does not end when the students arrive at All Saints. We also help them progress beyond Year 11. We have excellent links with the local 6th Form Colleges and a very supportive careers and advice service, which helps to ensure all our students move on to an appropriate next step for their personal development. Pupils like and value their school and can discuss how it brings them together as one, with strong positive relationships in existence. They particularly enjoy the fact that pupils from different cultures and religions are able to be part of this Catholic community, living daily together as one happy community. 7 Spirituality I signed up to go to Lourdes for the experience. I think it will be unique and spiritual but fun too. The promise auction was good fun; everyone supported us in our fundraising. Ciara, Year 10 FAITH EDUCATION As a faith school we believe we have a duty to prepare our students for much more than simply the world of work. Our distinctive faith and values mean our care, guidance and support are very important to us. We believe it is our responsibility to help our students discover a sense of the world and their own place in it. We promote Gospel values, serving God and others. We also help our students prepare for life changing decisions that involve relationships, vocation and careers. FAITH IN ACTION Each year, many of our Year 10 students go on pilgrimage to Lourdes where they help the sick people in our community. This is an integral part of college life and we involve all our students in the work that goes into preparing the group for their pilgrimage. We fundraise throughout the year for a large range of charitable causes in our local community and beyond. Our students are pro-active in suggesting causes and fundraising ideas. This raises awareness of the needs of others. RELIGIOUS SERVICES We provide many opportunities for our students to celebrate important feasts in the liturgical calendar. We have liturgies or mass at Christmas, Easter and on all holy days of obligation. We have learning group masses and provide our students with opportunities to develop their faith outside college through involvement with local parishes, charity groups and national events. 8 Ski trip 2018 Extra Curricular Activities The best thing about All Saints is all the different teams you can join depending on which sport you like. James, Year 8 LEARNING TUTORS Extra-Curricular clubs are open to all students, regardless of ability or experience. Interests in sports are then further developed through strong club links in the area. As well as practical performance in sports there is also the opportunity to develop sports leadership skills through the Young Leader Academy in school. 9 Pilgrimage to Lourdes Lourdes was a life changing experience. Callum, Year 11 (Head Boy 2017/18) SPORT THE ARTS CLUBS AND COUNCILS We offer a wide range of sporting opportunities for boys and girls. These include football, rugby league, athletics, cricket, basketball, netball, tennis and cross country. Recent success has come through the basketball teams; Kirklees and West Yorkshire Champions, also Indoor Athletics; Kirklees Champions and Cricket Division 2 Champions. We are now looking to build on this success with more extensive and state-of-the-art facilities which will help our sports teams go from strength to strength. We have various musical opportunities in college including a choir, dance groups for students in all year groups and a steel pan group. Students also access music lessons through Kirklees Music School. Students can become involved in our annual musical production, as well as numerous evening performances at events such as Black History evening and WW1 commemoration evenings. Many students are involved in their Year Council and are also part of the College Council. They are very active in many aspects of College life, such as organising events, developing social areas and even the appointment of new staff. 10 Learning outside of the Classroom OUT-OF-CLASS LEARNING ENRICHMENT DAYS We believe that much valuable learning also takes place outside of the classroom environment. Out-of-class activities offer students the chance to learn in different ways which are often more practical and experimental. We encourage educational visits off site and organise a variety of activities in college; all students are involved as we believe this will help them become more effective learners as well as giving them an enjoyable experience at All Saints. Each year we plan a series of enrichment days for our students. Normal lessons are suspended so that all students participate in enrichment learning activities, this includes activities such as dance and music workshops, Zoolab, group presentations. Students are also involved in various educational visits, these include: Theatre Groups, Student Conferences, Citizenship Days, University Trips, Zoolab, visits to London, Manchester and, of course, Lourdes. Many Faculty areas offer after-school clubs in their areas. Comments heard by the inspector during the Section 48 inspection included; I like RE because it allows you to give your own opinion and listen to other opinions too, It s good to learn about God and Jesus and during RE you become closer to them.
