10 READING GUIDE The Ants and the Grasshopper On day, a family of ants was busy working carefully laying out grain to dry. All of them were working very hard. A grasshopper approached them with a fiddle under his arm. Hi! he said. I m pretty hungry. Can you give me some of your grain? The biggest of the ants replied, But why don t you have any grain? You have had months to collect it. Well, said the grasshopper, I just wanted to play music, so I spent my summer doing that. I didn t collect any grain because I was too busy having fun.
