6 Teaching Table Suggestions of Contents Teaching Suggestions The Novel Thinking books are student-oriented lesson guides, aimed at enhancing both reading comprehension skills and vocabulary. The intent is to provide structured, pragmatic, and easy-to-use supplemental classroom materials based on novels of interest to a particular grade level. These lesson guides include the following language arts skills in the comprehension questions: Main Idea and Supporting Details Characters, Setting, and Plot Problem and Solution Making Inferences and Predictions Comparing and Contrasting Sequencing The table of contents includes the skills used in each exercise. Vocabulary skills such as context clues, synonyms, and naming parts of speech are emphasized. Writing activities that use descriptive writing are also included. Comprehension Exercises Students are instructed to answer in complete sentences whenever possible. Scoring Methodology Comprehension Each question has a possible total of 10 points. 5 points for content 5 points for grammar and punctuation Students are awarded points based on the accuracy of their answers (content) and the format in which they provide the information (sentence structure).
