Minimal grade in English 11 or English 12 ADMISSION REQUIREMENT Beginning in 2011, students applying to undergraduate studies at UBC Vancouver will be required to present a minimum final grade of 70% in Grade 11 or Grade 12 English in order to gain admission. LANGUAGE COURSES A beginner s language 11 does NOT satisfy the Language 11 admission requirement. NEW BC GRADE 11 MATH COURSES The Grade 11 mathematics requirement may be satisfied with one of Principles of Math 11, Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12. CHALLENGE EXAMS As of September 2011, students may not use challenge exams in place of approved grade 12 s in the calculation of their admission average for UBC, However, students may use challenge exams to satisfy program prerequisites. For example, at UBC Vancouver, a French 12 challenge grade may be used to satisfy the BC high school Language 11 Admission Requirement and/or the Language degree Requirement in the Faculty of Arts. If there are extenuating circumstances where a student must present a challenge exam mark for a required grade 12 math or science, contact UBC Undergraduate Admissions for consideration on a case-by-case basis. 4 UBC LPI EXEMPTIONS To be exempt from the LPI you must attain an interim mark of 80% in English 12 or a Final mark of 75%. The LPI is not an admission requirement but is a requirement to take a first year English s at UBC. For BC Students ONLY In conjunction with 2009 changes to BC provincial exam requirements, final means either the final -only grade assigned by the teacher, or the final grade including the government examination, whichever is higher. New for Admission to UBC For Admission in 2010 Calculus 12, Economics and Law 12 have been added to the list of approved Grade 12 s For Admission in 2013 Pre-Calculus 12 will be added to the list of approved Grade 12 s. UBC will use the higher of either Pre-Calculus 12 or Principles of J. Mulder for David Thompson & Killarney Secondary School.
