The B.A. degree is f a student who has strong interest in the geological sciences, and who wishes to take a larger number of electives than is compatible with the B.S program. The B.A. program has fewer math and science requirements and is not designed f a student who intends to seek admission to a graduate program in geology seek employment as a professional geologist. The B.A. program is f students who seek employment in a geology environmental science related field, and education. It also is appropriate f students who plan to enter graduate studies in a non-science field such as law school, geography, planning public administration. OPPORTUNITIES: Environmental scientists follow a variety of careers within the general scope of environmental science. Many wk f environmental companies state agencies moniting and solving potential and real pollution problems. These include conducting biological water quality surveys of surface waters such as streams lakes. Others wk with engineers in evaluating sustainability plans such as waste stream mining in facties of maj industries. Still others may become employed in grant proposal writing f recycling, sustainability, other green programs. Employment may be anywhere in the wld. It may be of office type, all outside wk, a combination of both. It may be practical research-iented and it may require either much little travel. Salaries compare favably with other scientists and engineers.
