13 Applied Learning (ApL) Courses - ApL is an integral part of the NSS curriculum. Students can take ApL courses as elective subjects at S5 and S6 (180 hours). 15 Other Learning Experiences (OLE) to develop core competencies Intra- / inter-personal skills, leadership, inter-cultural competencies, responsibilities, proactivity, positive values and attitudes Under the NSS Curriculum, OLE is one of the three components that complement the core and elective subjects 15% or more of the curriculum time Aiming to develop students whole-person development, foster a broader scope of views and life-long learning abilities for students Including learning experiences of Moral and Civic Education, Community Service, Physical Development, Aesthetic Development and Career-related Experiences. 15

18 Hong Kong, SAR, China Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) To be launched in 2012, replaces both HKCEE and HKALE Exam To be taken by students at the end of Secondary 6 (Grade 12) Broader curriculum: 4 core subjects plus 2 or 3 elective subjects

25 Overseas Recognition The HKDSE has secured recognition from overseas academic agencies, universities and governments HK Delegations to Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, South East Asia Positive response! Australia has recognised the HKDSE as equivalent to the Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education. The Ministry of Education of the People s Republic of China announced in December 2011 that 63 Mainland higher education institutions exempt the HKDSE holders from taking the Joint Entrance Examination for Universities in the Mainland. Besides, the University Entrance Committee for Overseas Chinese Student (UECOCS) of Taiwan has also announced that from 2012 onwards, the HKDSE holders can apply the Taiwan universities through UECOCS directly.
