2 Mock exams What is the purpose? To give you experience of what it will be like in May/June To identify strengths and areas for development inform teaching To help if there are issues in the summer
3 What you need to do Treat these seriously Revise and prepare Check issues with staff before the exam! Know the timetable
4 What happens afterwards There will be a mock results certificate You will collect your results as you will in summer Teachers will not give you feedback until you have received all your results and your certificate

6 Monday 19 th, Tuesday 20 th, Wednesday 21 st, Thursday 22 nd, Friday 23 rd : you have STUDY LEAVE, so you are NOT required to be in school unless you have an exam scheduled. EVERYONE must be back in school following a normal timetable from Monday 26th onwards, missing lessons only if you have an exam. Catch-up sessions will be available on Monday 26 th January and Tuesday 27 th January if you miss exams when scheduled above, for whatever reason, e.g. college interview, sickness, clash (there should be very few clashes ) Full school uniform please when you re in school! And please don t be late Please make sure you treat these exams seriously, as dress rehearsals for the real things in the summer. Know what will be in the exams, and revise!!! Use your study leave time wisely
7 Year 11 Revision Get Organised Make a study plan, programming in the work you need to do. Short bursts are more effective ( mins ). Have plenty of breaks to keep concentration. Break subjects into small chunks-less daunting! Don t do more than 2 subjects a day-too confusing for the brain. Kick off each section with a topic you find difficult.
8 Year 11 Revision Give yourself the best chance Manage your time carefully. Be honest with yourself. Have a regular place to revise. Ask others to help with your revision. Set up a revision group.(95%) Use memory strategies that most suit you. (SOHCAHTOA) Make sure you know what could be on the exam. Check you know when, where and how long the exam will be.
9 Year 11 Revision Revision Timetable How many days do you have left to revise? How much time will you devote to revision? (sport) How many breaks, and when? Review the timetable as you go on. What will you be gaining after the exams are over?

11 Year 11 Revision Before the test / assessment What do you need for it? Buy it, borrow it - just make sure you get it! Don t cram the night before. Read over what you have been learning and then get some sleep!
12 Year 11 Revision Day of the test Read the title Check the number of marks THEN read the question If you don t understand the question then.. If you go blank. You re running out of time
13 Year 11 Revision Summing Up Effective revision will increase your chances of success. You need to plan to make it effective. A little and often is best. Ask for help, don t panic. These exams are very important. The school website will have this presentation on together with other useful links.

16 Exam Rules and Regulations Mrs Roberts, Exams Officer
17 Joint Council for Qualifications JCQ sets the rules for exams for all of the examination boards, which must be followed by everyone. If you were to break the rules in anyway you could be disqualified from all of your subjects. The rules are on the school website and are posted on the door of the Exams Office. If you have any questions, please speak either to your subject teacher or see me in the Exams Office, before exams week.
18 Exam Do s Do know your timetable. Where and when are your exams? Do arrive ten minutes early for your exams. If you do arrive late, report to the invigilator. Do bring your equipment with you. The school only has a limited supply of spare equipment.
19 Exam Do Not s Do not cheat in any way, attempt to borrow anything, or try to communicate with other students once the exam has started. Do not take any devices into the exam on which you can access the internet. Leave your phone at home or hand it in to the invigilator before the exam begins.
20 Equipment Do s Do write in black ink only. Do bring your equipment in a see through pencil case. Do use a calculator if you need to, unless otherwise instructed. (Remember to check that it is working before the exam, and clear anything that is stored in the memory).
21 Equipment Do Not s Do not use correcting fluid, erasable pens, highlighters or gel pens. Do not use a dictionary or spell checker unless otherwise instructed.
22 During the Exam Do listen to the invigilators and follow their instructions at all times. Do follow the rules. Do read carefully and follow the instructions on your paper. Do fill in your candidate details on your answer sheets. Do your rough work on exam stationery. Cross it through and hand it in with your answer sheets.
23 During the Exam Raise your hand to speak with the invigilator if You think you have the wrong paper or materials. You need more paper. You do not feel well. You have any problems and are in doubt about what to do. If you leave the room without an invigilator during the exam, you will not be able to return.
24 At the end of the exam Do not leave the room until instructed to do so by the invigilator. Do not take any stationery from the room. There may be another exam taking place. Leave the room quietly so that you don t disturb other students.
