2 AS Mathematical Studies is the new Level 3 course for students who achieved a Grade 5 or above at GCSE Maths and wish to develop their practical Maths skills for the real world. Students learn to critically analyze data presented in the media and study Maths for personal finance including interest rates, taxation and solutions to financial problems. Pure Mathematics begins as an extension of the work you have studied at GCSE, such as algebra and trigonometry. Mechanics includes the study of forces, projectiles, momentum and vectors while Statistics is the analysis and interpretation of data. Further Mathematics builds on the ideas in Pure Mathematics (calculus, trigonometry, algebra and vectors) as well as introducing some rather different ideas in areas such as complex numbers.
