2 Shape, space and measures Mental Math Problem solving Finds the perimeter and area of a shape made from rectangles. Derives and use a formula for the area of a triangle. Calculates areas of triangles, parallelograms and trapezia. Finds the surface area and volume of 3D shapes Measurement Applies various methods of measurement related to length, area and volume. Uses scales and simple scale drawings. Multiplies and divides decimals by 10,100, or Estimates additions and subtractions, and compares results with actual sum or difference. Uses mental math to choose the correct sum or difference. Multiplies and divides mentally. Solves simple problems involving multiplication and division. Solves simple problems involving addition and subtraction. Solves word problems and carries out investigations related to measurement, fractions and geometry. Let s make 2D shapes using straws and tape. Using the 2D shapes, let s make 3D shapes. Measuring their handmade shapes. Finds area, perimeter, and volume from their models. Answering mental math questions before classes begin. Problem of the day. Every student has a worksheet with the problems of the whole month, and they have to solve them in advance.
