Job Title: Summary of the role: Line management responsibility for Head of Early Years To provide leadership in the development and management of the teaching and learning of our EYFS. To teach pupils in the EYFS and carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Head of the Junior School Nursery Teacher and all Early Years Teaching Assistants Main duties and responsibilities: To provide effective teaching and learning to children and young people To establish a purposeful learning environment where children and young people feel secure and confident; where diversity is valued; where there are opportunities to maximise teaching and learning Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact. To teach clearly structured lessons/sequences of work which interest and motivate children and take into account the inclusion and diversity agenda Using a variety of teaching and learning strategies To be committed to school policy relating to behaviour management, safeguarding and health and safety To set appropriately challenging learning and teaching objectives for whole class, groups or individuals To mark and assess pupils' work, using the school s monitoring and assessment policies against the learning objectives/outcomes To build and maintain good working relationships with staff, pupils, parents/carers and the wider community of the school

2 To reflect and evaluate on own teaching To keep up-to-date with current educational practices To use monitoring and assessment information where appropriate to inform future planning and teaching To maintain an attractive, stimulating and well-organised learning environment To provide informal and formal assessments including oral feedback written reports and parents evenings, reports relating to the development and learning of individual pupils / groups of pupils as required Ensure that all staff (particularly those in Key Stage 1) have an understanding of the Early Years curriculum Develop and maintain continuity and progression across Nursery and Reception through: shared practice shared organisation shared record keeping Establish and consolidate links with neighbouring pre-school providers and other relevant professionals (eg social services, speech therapists, health visitors, educational psychologists, etc To be part of the Junior School Senior Management Team and attend meeting accordingly To be the designated safeguarding lead for the EYFS Line management duties and responsibilities Lead and manage EYFS team Update team on changes to school policy. Support the professional development of team Carry out performance management of EYFS team

3 Be part of the Junior School Senior Management Team, alongside the two Assistant Heads and Head of Junior School Monitor staff progress and development and support CPD of all EYFS staff Monitor, assess and develop the teaching practice and roles of the class teachers in EYFS Ensure that class teachers deliver lessons effectively Work with teachers to promote best and innovative practice to enrich the range of teaching and learning styles in the school Set learning goals to be included in the school development plan Revise and maintain EYFS scheme of work according to the Early Learning Goals and schools development plan Review, develop and update as necessary Nursery Admissions Policy Disseminate up to date EYFS information from EYFS organisations throughout the wider school community Maintain accurate and appropriate records of staff and pupils Oversee the maintenance of records used by EYFS staff You may also be required to undertake such other comparable duties as the Head requires from time to time.

Essential Desirable Method of assessment Qualifications These are qualities without which the Applicant could not be appointed The professional, technical or academic qualifications that the Applicant must have to undertake the role or the training that they must have received Degree with appropriate QTS These are extra qualities which can be used to choose between applicants who meet all of the essential criteria The professional, technical or academic qualifications that the Applicant would ideally have to undertake the role or the training that they should ideally have received First aid training Safeguarding training EYFS qualification Production of the Applicant s certificates Discussion at interview Independent verification of qualifications Experience The categories of work or organisations, types of achievements and activities that would be likely to predict success in the role Experience working in schools and in an Early Years class Knowledge of current curriculum The categories of work or organisations, types of achievements and activities that would be likely to contribute to success in the role Experience in leading a team Experience of the whole Junior age range 3-11
