2 KAHNAWAKE EDUCATION CENTER P.O BOX 1000 KAHNAWAKE, QC J0L 1B0 Tel: Fax: GENERAL INFORMATION Job Title: Department: Date : Terms: Immediate supervisor: Associate Principal Kahnawà:ke Survival School March 16, 2017 Indeterminate position with 6 month Probationary Period Principal of KSS GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Associate Principal of Kahnawà:ke Survival School, under the direct supervision of the Principal, is responsible for the management, supervision and administration of all student programs. In addition the Associate Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in the general administration of the school, and participating in the general administration of the Kahnawake School System through administration meetings and system strategic planning. RESPONSIBILITIES To supervise and evaluate school student services. TASKS In collaboration with the Principal, develops, implements and monitors a Response to Intervention model for all students. Supervises and evaluates the Student Services Team of the school. Sets short and long-term goals for the Student Services Team in conjunction with KEC vision, mission, and mandate. Provides orientation and developmental support for new student services personnel. Assigns appropriate duties and responsibilities, workload and schedules to student services staff and support staff. Consults regularly with student services staff to improve services to students by chairing all student services team meetings and student education planning meetings. Involves teachers, peers and parents in resolving student management situations with an emphasis on conflict resolution and peer mediation. 1
3 Assists the Career Path Coordinator with the development of the Student Activities Program. Encourages parents to participate in school activities and programs. Initiates and conducts parent conferences and accommodates parents requests for conferences regarding their children using relevant school records. Communicates with parents regarding student progress and development. Work with Student Services Team to appropriately modify instruction, services and expectations for students referred for special education placement. Initiates and monitors contracts or service agreements with organizations responsible for providing student services as determined by the Student Services Team. Follows the Protocol for Kahnawà:ke Community Schools, Step by Step Family Center, Kahnawà:ke Community Services referrals in the event of student endangerment. Identifies in collaboration with Principal, Professional Development required to support staff and student needs. To supervise and evaluate student programs and activities Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the social, emotional, personal and physical development of students by through the student management program. Administers the student management policy and procedures. Administers the school attendance policy. Promotes student participation in school activities and emphasis on quality and excellence in school life. Supervises and evaluates student programs to enhance quality of student life and excellence in student participation. Responds appropriately to students needs, interests, aptitude, talents and learning styles. Page 2
4 Recognizes student achievement with praise and positive reinforcement. Establishes and maintains a positive atmosphere of mutual respect, mutual understanding, and mutual acceptance. Maintains accurate and detailed student reports. Offers suggestions for improvement of student behavior and student work and study skills when appropriate and within an educational context. To assist in the administration of the school Assists the Principal in administering the policies and procedures of the school and the system. Assists the Principal and staff in developing, implementing and evaluating policies and procedures. Assists the Principal in working with the staff and teachers. Submits reports and forms promptly and within established deadlines. Participates in the formative and summative evaluation process of programs related to school wide prevention services. Develops and experiments with innovative programs, methods and materials. Cooperates in developing, establishing and achieving the systems' and school s philosophy, mission, vision, goals and objectives. Cooperates in developing, establishing and maintaining system and school rules, policies, routines, and procedures for the general operation of the school. Participates in the development and implementation of school programs that promote quality education. Prepare, administer and monitor budget specific to Special Education. To perform any non-recurrent job related duties. Page 3

Expects and demands high performance consistent with student abilities, interests and needs. Teamwork Works collaboratively with the school s administration team. Participates actively and consistently in all student services, meetings and activities. External communications Actively participates in extracurricular and community activities when and where possible. Communicates and works closely with community services, health services, and other Kahnawà:ke schools and institutions to provide programs and services to students. Training Participates in conferences, workshops, and in-service training. Negotiations Student contracts when and where applicable Page 4

QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience required Bachelor degree in Education, plus five (5) years classroom teaching and/or counseling experience. Special Education Training and/or certification. Administration experience an asset and/or willing to enroll in Educational Leadership training. Knowledge of the Kanienkeha language and culture is a definite asset and/or must be willing to learn. Skills and requirements Ability to self-evaluate realistically to improve performance. Knowledge of student services programs and techniques Knowledge of study skills, social skills, and student activities programs. Knowledge of social, emotional, personal and physical growth and development of adolescents. Knowledge of school and system policy, procedures, programs, resource, and facilities. Knowledge of effective staff and parent involvement techniques. Knowledge of cultural and community dynamics and its effect on school and system operations. Knowledge of educational technology.
