1 1 Name: Date: Teacher: Mr. Livingston ADDRESS: What is Earth Science? -Earth Science is a wonderful course that includes a little bit of every science! It is comprised of four major topics: 1. Astronomy 2. Geology 3. Atmospheric Science 4. Oceanography Supplies: One 1 inch 3-ring blue binder that is used for ONLY Earth Science One Folder (with three holes in it) One Agenda (provided by our school) Pencils and Pens- I will NOT provide them for you. 2 one subject three-hole spiral notebooks that can fit in the binder (one you can keep at home until the other is full). Colored Pencils (one 12 pack) Two bottles of glue Pencil case or Ziploc type bag (to stay in class with supplies in it) Earth Science textbook Optional: Students can earn 1 point on their quarter average if they bring in one box of tissues (once per quarter). Please put your name on all supplies!

2 2 How should you organize your supplies? Binder Should include: -Notebook (day to day class use) -Folder (HW, labs, tests, quizzes, etc.) Your binder, folder, notebook, agenda, and pens/pencils must be brought to class everyday. Your textbook can be left at home. Homework Policy: Unless otherwise stated, homework will be due the next day from when it was assigned. Homework cannot be handed in late. Homework must be shown the class period that it is due, and be complete to earn credit. Absences: Please see me to find out what you need to make up. Completing Work: Some work I will simply look to make sure its completed, and you will receive credit. Some work will be collected. Collected work must end up in the basket on my desk. Lateness policy for collected work: When I assign something to you, I will tell you what the lateness policy is for that particular assignment. It will vary based on what the assignment is. Grading Policy: Each quarter will broken down as follows: Tests, Quizzes, & Projects: 55 % Homework: 20 % Labs & Classwork: 25 % Weekly class participation score included in classwork grade 1 point per day if you bring ALL of the following items: binder, folder, notebook, agenda, and pens/pencils

3 3 Grading Concerns: DO NOT wait until it is too LATE. A student who is proactive is a student who is aware that they are struggling. believes in themselves, and that they can improve. talks to their teacher about the difficulty they are experiencing. comes to extra help each week to help bring up their grade. maintains a growth mindset. I believe in you. I need you to believe in yourself too! Extra Help: Extra Help will be Tuesday mornings at 7:35 A.M. in room 225. Tuesday afternoons at 3:00 P.M. in room 225. Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. You are always responsible to see me to make up any work you may have missed: Includes: Tests, Quizzes, Labs, Projects, and Homework Assignments Music Lessons, Trips, and other school related absences: You are responsible for any classwork missed as well as any homework assigned (due the next day after the lesson). You will be asked to see the work that is due the day of the lesson the following day.

4 4 Classroom Procedures Classroom Code of Conduct 1. Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn EVERYDAY. 2. Respect your teacher, the classroom, other students, and yourself. 3. Be responsible for your own learning. 4. Clean up after yourself. Mr. L s five P s: Prompt, Prepared, Productive, Polite, Patient Entering the classroom: Go directly to your seat. Do not wait for the bell to ring to begin working. Once you are in your seat: Take out any work that is due. Write down in your agenda any assignments, or upcoming events you see on the board. Begin working on the day s Do Now. Tardiness (being late): How I define lateness: You must be within the walls of my classroom by the time the bell rings. If you are late: And you have a pass: hand it to me and sit at your desk. If you do not have a pass: First time: Verbal warning to remember to be on time. Second time: Phone call home that it is your second late and that the next time will result in a detention. Third time: Phone call home that you will be receiving a detention for your third lateness. Leaving the classroom: You are to remain in your seat at all times unless given permission for the following reasons: Bathroom Getting a drink of water

5 5 Nurse Visit You ARE NOT permitted to go to your locker during class at ANY TIME. If you must leave for any other reason, you must ask me before you get up out of your seat. You will not be permitted to leave the room for ten minutes after the period begins or ten minutes before the period ends. No matter what the reason, only ONE student is permitted to leave the room at a time. Bathroom Visits/Getting a drink: -Near the door are clipboards representing each of my classes. Before you use the clipboard, raise your hand and ask if you can go to the bathroom. On the clipboard will be a list of the names of all the students in your class. Each time you have to go to the bathroom or get a drink, you must draw an X in the row next to your name. You may then take the pass and exit the room. -If you have an unexcused late, you will not be permitted to use the bathroom during the class period that day. Food/Drink Policy: Except for a water bottle, you cannot eat, drink, or chew gum in class at any time. Appropriate Classroom Participation: A classroom is a place where students and teachers engage in learning together. This cannot happen if you are calling out. You must always raise your hand. Cell Phone/Electronic Device Use: Unless otherwise stated, all electronic devices are prohibited. If I see a cell phone or another electronic device, I will confiscate it and hold on to it for the remainder of day.

6 6 After the second time in which you were caught with a cell phone when you shouldn t be, I will hold onto the phone as before, but also contact your parent or guardian. Additional times will result in further consequences. Discipline Plan ***Every behavior is a choice, and every choice has a consequence. Every choice has a consequence. Some consequences are positive, and some are negative. Think of behavior you decide upon in this class as a choice that will always have a consequence. If you make a poor choice, there will always be a consequence. Examples of some of those consequences are: o Parent Contact-phone call or o Detention o Deans Referral o Sent directly down to the Dean s office from class I (student name) understand and accept the code of conduct, the procedures, and the discipline plan that have been outlined in this syllabus.
