Acquire good study skills through participation in a study skills course. Learn to do mathematical computations without a calculator & understand the relationship among fractions, decimals & percents. Develop good recognition vocabularies. 6 Class room expectations Concentration Listening to each teacher and making certain to ask questions if the materials is not clear are MUSTS. Good Note-Taking Taking notes in OUTLINE FORM from classroom lectures and discussions and from textbook readings is a MUST. Time Management Using a daily planner is a MUST. Organizational Skills Remember: A Place for everything and everything in its place.
7 Good Study Habits Completing assignments in a timely and thorough manner is a MUST. Review of Notes Daily Going over your notes each day while the lecture is still fresh in mind is a MUST. Ask for Help - from teachers, fellow classmates and from those in your family who are wiser than you. Motivation If you re not too excited about a course, view it as an obstacle you must overcome. Plug away and remember that success will be up to you! Commitment is a MUST! It will pay off!
8 Getting families in the loop! Parents must START EARLY getting involved. Parents must instigate communications with teachers and staff using s & telephone when need arises. Parents with their students must attend evening meeting related to testing & curriculum. Parents must encourage good physical & mental preparation. Parents must preach PRACTICE!
