También aprenderá estructuras más complejas y un vocabulario más extenso para ser capaz de manejar de mejor manera temas más abstractos. 3. GENERAL OBJECTIVE The student will master all four language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) and use of language at an intermediate level. 4. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 4.1. LISTENING/ SPEAKING The students will be able to: a) Follow clearly articulated speech b) Understand short narratives c) Express and respond to feelings d) Agree and disagree politely e) Express beliefs and opinions on familiar topics 1 f) Use a prepared questionnaire g) Give and respond to advice h) Make recommendations i) Exchange opinions j) Soften strong opinion

3 Teléf.: Ext METHODOLOGY The course takes into account a learner-centered methodology which highlights intercultural aspects. Students are motivated through a variety of activities which enable them the discovery of the structure or meaning in the target language. These activities include oral and written texts that allow students to build up their own learning to successfully interact in English. The four skills of language plus structures and vocabulary are developed after the students previous knowledge has been practiced. All this in a context which deals with aspects of interest for the students such as work, studies, and daily life. 7. ASSESSMENT 7.1 EVALUATION ACTIVITIES The student will be assessed through a variety of activities that include, among others, the following: - group work - homework - presentations - written production - grammar and vocabulary exercises - reading controls - unit quizzes, - a midterm oral and a written exam, - a final oral and a final written exam EVALUATION DATES From Monday, June 6 to Tuesday, July 20, Midterm written exam June 24, 2011 Midterm oral Exam June 27, Dates to submit midterm grades: From June 27 to July 1, Date to submit class participation grade: July 15, Final written exam: July 18, Final oral Exam: July 20, Dates to submit final grades: from July 20, to July 24, GRADING SYSTEM In order to pass the course, students must obtain a minimum of 30/50 points. Grades are distributed as follows: Classwork: Homework, quizzes, etc. 10 points Midterm written exam 10 Midterm oral exam 10 Final written exam 10 Final oral exam 10 TOTAL 50 points 3
4 Teléf.: Ext 1243 If a student misses a quiz which forms part of the grade for classwork or misses to hand in a piece of homework, then it is up to the teacher to allow the student to take the quiz afterwards or accept the homework. The grade for class work has to be handed in 3 days before the final exam ATTENDANCE Students are permitted up to TEN absences per course. If a student is more than 10 minutes late, s/he is considered to be absent. If a student has between eleven to twenty absences, s/he has to get 40 points out of 50 to pass the course. There are no justified absences as established in the Students General Regulations. 8.
