2 MIDDLE SCHOOL GENERAL INFORMATION Faculty, Staff and Sr. Counselors CA Summer Experience employs current CA Faculty and Staff members as well as highly qualified outside sources as teachers of the Summer Experience programs. Sr. Counselors are typically local college students who have been hired after an extensive interview and training process. Sr. Counselors are assigned to camps each week and will accompany your child all day during their respective camp. CA Summer Experience also employs ample administrative staff to support daily programming. Communication Upon registration with full payment, you should receive a confirmation from Summer_Experience@columbusacademy.org with your child s class schedule and additional information. You can expect communication via from your child s teacher the Friday prior to camp starting and the Wednesday during the respective camp week. If registration is received late, there may be a delay in this communication. Facilities A majority of programs are held on CA s beautiful 231-acre campus that consists of a six-lane indoor pool, computer labs with imac computers, nature trails, outdoor classroom space, low ropes elements, eight tennis courts, Schoedinger Theatre seating 430, two full-length gymnasiums, a weight room, a ceramics studio, five art studios, three libraries, five playgrounds, eight science labs, four soccer fields, two turf fields, an all-weather track, a full service dining hall, three music rooms, and two baseball fields. The campus may be accessed from the West on Cherry Bottom Road or from the East via Beecher Road off of Hamilton Road. (Please refer to the campus map on the inside of the back cover.) Field Trip and Off-Site Transportation Columbus Academy utilizes school bus rental as a means of transportation for field trips and off-site programs. All drivers have proof of credentials and background checks. CA also has a fleet of 7 passenger vans that will be used for smaller traveling groups. All drivers are employees of Columbus Academy and are van-certified. Half Day and Half +Plus Programs Some programs offer a half day and half +plus option. Please see course listings for availability. Half day programs include the morning themed programming session from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Half +plus programs include the morning themed programming from 9:00 am to 11:30 am PLUS lunch and free choice activity from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Half day and half +plus programs cannot be combined with other full, half, or half +plus programs. Extended Care Programs Before Care is held from 7:00 am to 8:30 am and provides a variety of quiet activities for your child as he or she gets ready for the day. After Care is held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and features exciting themed activities as well as quiet places for children to explore and reflect on the experiences they have had at CA. Parents MUST pick up their children from After Care by 6:00 pm. Parents that do not pick up their children by the end of After Care will be charged $1.00 per minute beyond 6:00 pm. If Before or After Care are not needed for the full week, proration is available by contacting our office at (614) Please understand there can be no proration for the combo pricing. Before Care $50 per week $10 per day After Care $62.50 per week $12.50 per day Before and After Care Combo $85 per week 5 day option only Before / After Care is best accessed by parking in the Academy Hall Parking Circle near the main entrance to the school. Follow the color coded system into the Theater entrance of the Lower School to the Before / After Care room. Parents must come into the After Care room and provide a photo ID to sign out their child each day. Lunch Lunch is provided by Columbus Academy s Dining Service for most of the programs and is built into the price of the camp. Most off-site camps require students to bring a lunch; please check individual course descriptions for lunch specifications. CA offers a hot main dish including vegetarian options, as well as a salad bar, pasta bar, and deli bar. We do our best to accommodate all dietary requests / restrictions. Please contact our office if you have additional questions related to dietary concerns. Children are welcome to pack a lunch if they wish, but the lunch must be completely peanut and tree nut free. Allergy Policy: Columbus Academy Summer Experience is peanut and tree nut free. Daily Drop-off/Pick-up There will be signage all around campus to help direct you where to go and park, as well as a color coded system to follow from the parking areas to help guide you to the correct entrance. Please see the CA campus map on the inside of the back cover for general parking information. Check-in for Middle School (rising 6th through 9th grade) programs is between 8:30 am and 9:00 am in the gym of the Athletic Complex and / or the Barton Room. Middle School parents / guardians should follow campus signage to the Middle School parking area (Parent Hall Parking Lot) and escort children into the building no earlier than 8:30 am on the first day of camp; children may be dropped off at the MS circle after the first day. There will be CA Staff available to help parents and students get to their check-in areas. Students will check-in directly with their Sr. Counselor inside the gym or Barton Room. Any student who arrives prior to 8:30 am and is not accompanied by an adult will be escorted to Before Care and charged the daily rate of $10. Pick-up is between 4:00 pm and 4:15 pm in the gym of the Athletic Complex and / or the Barton Room. Parents or guardians will need to come into the school and provide a photo ID to sign children out. If someone other than a parent / guardian will be picking up your child, please let his or her counselor know in writing in the morning at drop-off. If your child is not picked up by 4:15 pm, he or she will be taken to After Care, at which time you will be charged the daily rate of $ Late Drop-off/Early Pick-up If it is necessary to drop off or pick up your child at any time other than the designated camp times, the Floating Counselor is available to help with these transitions. If you know this information ahead of time, you may write it on the sheet provided at one of the two Help Desks. You may also contact the 32

3 Floating Counselor any time during camp hours at to arrange a pick-up or drop-off. Friday Showcase Some of our camps perform in our weekly Friday Showcase to share their new skills or creations with their parents and fellow campers. All parents/ families are welcome to attend. These shows are held in Schoedinger Theatre and typically begin at 3:15 pm on Friday afternoons. Information regarding the Friday Showcase will be communicated via and CA Summer Experience s Facebook page. What to Wear/Bring Campers should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes, and should also consider bringing a bookbag, water bottle and sunscreen to camp each day. Please check the course descriptions to see if any other materials are needed for each individual program. If the student is planning to participate in free swim for their free choice activity, campers should also pack a bathing suit, towel and plastic bag for wet clothes. Should a child misplace an item, there will be a Lost & Found table located near the Athletic Complex lobby throughout the summer. Columbus Academy is not responsible for any lost personal items. Free Choice Activity Students participating in half +plus or full day programs on campus will have a free choice activity period before or after their lunchtime. Campers may choose from the following daily options: free swim, computer lab, outdoor free play, or quiet reading and crafting room. Children participating in the free swim option will need to bring a bathing suit and towel each day they wish to swim, along with a plastic bag for their wet clothes at the conclusion of swim. Important 2017 Policy Changes Based on parental feedback and continuous improvement efforts, Columbus Academy will be updating the following policies beginning in 2017: SPORTS CLINICS Sports Clinics are now listed in the Athletics sections of the main class descriptions. Sports Clinics are joining forces with a Sports & More camp to offer a consistent full day option this year. Sports Clinics can not be paired with a camp other than Sports & More or another Sports Clinic to make a full day schedule. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES If a cancelation is made after a camp s start date, there will be no refund issued. Camp fees are priced per week. Proration of camp fees is no longer available for partially attended weeks. Camp fees can no longer be prorated if you choose to attend partial days and full days within the same week. (i.e. A student attends Full Day Mon.-Wed. and Half Day Thurs. and Fri. The student would still be charged the Full Day rate for the week.) SECURITY Parents are required to show a photo ID every day to sign out their child from camp. Electronics Policy With the increase in the technology around us, electronics are no longer prohibited at camp; however, we expect that these devices be put away unless specifically required for a camp or in the case of an emergency. Discipline Action Plan and Termination Attendees who are found to bully or harass others will generally be subject to serious disciplinary action, including prohibition from further attendance. Children will receive one warning and CA Summer Experience reserves the right to remove any camper from our program for disciplinary reasons. If a child is removed for disciplinary reasons, there will be no refund. Whether submitting a paper form or registering online, registration is not complete until payment is received. Cancelations or changes made prior to the appropriate deadline will incur no penalty and will be refunded in full. Cancelations made after the deadlines will be refunded at 25% of the program fee. Please understand that after these deadlines, we have made firm financial commitments to our faculty and staff, in addition to purchasing materials for the class. If a cancelation is made after the camp s start date, there will be no refund issued. Changes made to schedules after the deadlines will be charged a non-refundable fee of $25 per child plus any difference in camp fees. If late registrations are received after the deadlines, camp fees increase by 10%. DEADLINES: May 18th for Sessions 1-5 and June 22nd for Sessions

4 MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER EXPERIENCE Programs are in alphabetical order and categorized by Academics, Arts & Sciences, and Athletics programming. The Middle School Registration Form is on page 49. Please note: rising indicates the grade your child will be entering in the school year. Academics A Way With Words: Understanding the Gift of Writing Workshop Rising 6-9 Session 5 (M, W-F), 6 Instructor: Chiquita Toure 5: Full (9a-4p) $210 Half +Plus (9a-1:30p) $135 Half (9a-11:30a) $105 6: Are there treasures of creativity buried deep within you? Have you ever been deeply impacted by wonderful writings? Do you yearn to express your voice through the written or oral language to influence others? This workshop offers an opportunity for every student to become empowered through the creative expression of the written word. Students will experience writing a variety of genres including free verse poetry, haikus, nested meditations, six word stories, memoirs (creative nonfiction), and description. Each student will learn specific techniques that focus on multisensory details and voice to illuminate their writings. Students can also choose to awaken their writings by performing them as a spoken word piece. At the end of the workshop, students will create a compilation of student writings. Building Your Study Skills Toolbox Rising 6-9 Session 2 Instructor: Genevieve Adkins Rising 6-9 Session 9, 10 Instructor: Joanna Malachowsky In this class, students will discover who they are as learners. They will participate in a series of mini workshops designed to help them understand and develop a growth mindset, target their strengths and weaknesses in organization and study skills, and build a study skills toolbox to take with them into the coming year. They will experiment with strategies such as close reading, annotation of reading passages, protocols for reviewing notes, making flash cards for targeted review, and more! These workshops will be structured in a fun and engaging way (did somebody say something about study games?!) and will give them hands on practice to hone their skills. We will use The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens as the anchor text for the course. Students will also learn about how mindfulness impacts the adolescent brain and have the opportunity to practice some mindfulness activities. Creative Writing Rising 6-9 Session 4 Instructor: Trinity Gephart As a group, we will learn how to make our writing come alive by tapping into our creative juices. We will compose short stories and/or poems and learn what makes a piece of literature interesting and memorable. Another skill taught in this program will be how to effectively peer review someone else s work and how this process can be beneficial to both the writer and editor. This program will also emphasize public speaking skills for those who are comfortable enough to read their work aloud to the group. Excel for Beginners Rising 6-9 Session 6 Instructor: Mike Fatten Full (9a-4p) $260 No Half +Plus No Half In this class, we will learn the beginning basics of Excel. We will learn to solve problems from basic spreadsheet introduction to cell formatting and referencing through formula exploration. We will learn to use Excel as a checkbook to keep track of mortgages and credit cards as well as advanced topics such as pivot tables and multivariate regression and data analysis. Fly with Chinese Rising 6-9 Session 9 Instructor: Na Li Full (9a-4p) $260 No Half +Plus No Half Have you ever wondered what it would be like to know another language? Come fly with Chinese! Join native Chinese instructor, Na Li, on this weeklong journey through the Chinese language and culture. Fly with Chinese is an authentic experience where your child will learn to speak and write Chinese as well as learn the culture of China. In this program, your child will come face to face with hands-on activities such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese paper folding and other crafts, dancing and music, Chinese chess, and Chinese sports. French Rising 6-9 Session 3 Instructor: Rachelle Smith Full (9a-4p) $260 No Half +Plus No Half Oh la la! Do you enjoy French culture? Do you wish you could speak French? Then, this camp is designed for you! We will be exploring all things French, from the French language to French food. We will focus on learning basic conversational French skills and building our vocabulary. We will also read the classic French story, Le Petit Prince. By the end of this camp, students will be confident in their basic French communication skills and abilities. Grammar 101 Rising 6-9 Session 1 (M-W, F) Instructor: Trinity Gephart Full (9a-4p) $210 Half +Plus (9a-1:30p) $135 Half (9a-11:30a) $105 In a world where text lingo has taken over, it has become increasingly important to remember the basic rules of grammar that teachers, college admissions and future hiring professionals are looking for. Through the use of fun and interactive games, we will look to make the often-labeled boring content of language arts stick in a creative way. This program will help you to equip yourself with the tools and skills to really WOW! the superiors in your future. Hands on Geometry: Designing the House of the Future Rising 6-9 Session 2, 8 Instructor: Joanna Malachowsky Full (9a-4p) $260 No Half +Plus No Half Do you ever wish you could time travel to the future? Do you daydream about hoverboards and being able to surf the web on a computer screen in your forearm? If so, then this is the class for you. The challenge, if you choose to accept it, is this: design the house of the future that will meet the needs of people living in the year In this project, students will examine four trends that will affect the kind of houses that people live in by 2075: population growth, urbanization, energy efficiency, and changing tastes in design. Students will create a floor plan and basic model that will convey key geometric concepts and show how geometry was used to construct it. This project is designed to encourage creativity and imagination. The class will culminate with the students presenting their ideas to their classmates and parents, as well as having their work on display during the Friday Showcase. 34

5 Lab Science Applications Rising 6-9 Session 8 Instructor: Leslie Hill Join us as we have fun exploring science topics used in a variety of fields of interests from food to sports. For example, how food scientists synthesize the odor and taste molecules to make a mock apple pie. Math Applications Rising 6-9 Session 3, 4 Instructor: Leslie Hill Have you ever asked what ratios and inequalities have to do with real life? Come explore the answers to these questions when we learn how the following are related: variability and quality assurance, areas of circles and search and rescue, and ratios and cycling! Take part in this camp and explore how these math skills are used in numerous careers. Campers will enrich their math skills through games, selected activities, and interactive websites. Students are encouraged to bring a programmable calculator such as Texas Instrument TI-83 Plus or TI-84. Microscopy: The Unseen World Rising 6-9 Session 5 (M, W-F) Instructor: Michael Smith Full (9a-4p) $265 No Half +Plus No Half Microscopes are a very important aspect of science education. There is a whole world of learning that exists in a drop of water or in a single plant or animal cell. Students will learn the parts of a microscope and how to use it; how to prepare slides and samples from locations on the CA campus grounds; the basics of cell biology and create an actual 3D model of the cell from our observations; and how the microscope is used for real-world disease diagnosis. Lastly, to extend their learning after this class ends, students will be able to take home their own microscope and will earn an Introduction to Microscopy Certificate. Writer s Workshop Rising 6-9 Session 7 Instructor: Michelle Sabadash Full (9a-4p) $260 No Half +Plus No Half You think you want to be a writer? Or maybe you already are In Writer s Workshop, we ll write, share our work, collaborate and prepare a final piece for parents and friends to enjoy. So whether you are addicted to fiction, have the heart of a poet or are ready to join the staff of The Columbus Dispatch, Writer s Workshop is sure to provide the inspiration you need to pursue a writer s life! Students are required to bring a notebook, and a book for quiet reading time. Young Journalist Rising 6-9 Session 2, 8 Instructor: Jasiliki Davidson As a Young Journalist, students will spend class time exploring the many aspects of broadcast journalism, including developing and writing news stories as well as creating print, audio, and visual content. With the goal of connecting classroom experiences with those of a journalist, students will also visit news and radio stations. Arts & Sciences Arts & Sciences classes require dress for mess attire. Acrylic On Canvas Rising 6-9 Session 3 Instructor: Ratnamala Deshmukh In this camp, you will learn step by step basic techniques and various styles in acrylic painting. Paintings will be theme-based, and to help with visualization, we will use clay art effect, too. Students will be encouraged to be artistic and creative in their ideas. Students will be guided in mixing colors, creating new shades, patterns and textures. This camp is the best approach for beginners to explore endless ideas to create beautiful paintings. My DNA Rising 6-9 Session 10 Instructor: Ihab Ismail Full (9a-4p) $499 No Half +Plus No Half This is the camp the curious side of you has been waiting for. Do you want to know what you are made of? Let your DNA tell your story. Are you proud of your DNA? Show it off in a beautiful blue DNA necklace. Join us in a camp where special DNA makes bacteria glow and solves a crime. We will see videos, build a DNA model, play games, and make a friend or two along the way. Course fee includes the cost of DNA kit. Spanish for Beginners Rising 6-9 Session 7 Instructor: Kimberly Ditty Full (9a-4p) $260 No Half +Plus No Half This class is for both true beginners in Spanish and for those looking to refresh their basic language skills in advance of the upcoming school year. Forget the textbooks and worksheets; we will learn and practice Spanish through music, food, dance, art and play! We will also explore countries and cultures around the world where Spanish is spoken. Advanced Pastry and Baking Rising 6-9 Session 5 (M, W-F) Instructor: Young Chefs Academy Staff Full (9a-4p) $230 No Half +Plus No Half Have a passion for baking? This is the perfect camp! We will explore different baking and pastry techniques all week, from sweets to savories and even chocolate and candy garnishes. Students will work independently to make their own creations like classic lavender petit fours with homemade lemon filling and buttermilk chocolate doughnut holes with mocha ganache. All levels of experience are welcome, but we ask campers be prepared for a structured class for these advanced recipes. Bring your sweet tooth! Adventure Camp 101 Rising 6-9 Session 4 Instructor: TrekNetwork Staff Full (9a-4p) $495 No Half +Plus No Half Adventure 101 is an ideal combination of experiential learning, fun and adventure for kids interested in gaining a better understanding of their 35

6 natural surroundings. Participants are encouraged to interact with the environment as they identify and interpret edibles and avoidables and explore stream ecology, wildlife and bugs. An archery component will include instruction on safety and shooting technique as well as a friendly competition. Campers will also experience rock climbing at Columbus Metro Parks Whittier Peninsula with instruction from expert guides on climbing techniques. We cap it off with a fun day on the water that includes an introduction to canoeing, kayaking or stand up paddleboarding (SUP). No experience is required and all equipment and instruction are provided. Participants need to be prepared to perform intense activities and able to swim. This is a traveling/off-site program. Adventures in Rock Climbing, Archery, Wilderness Photography & Survival Rising 6-9 Session 1 (M-W, F) Instructor: TrekNetwork Staff Full (9a-4p) $475 No Half +Plus No Half Adventure abounds as expert guides lead rock climbing, archery, wilderness photography and survival skills events. This camp includes hands-on adventure outings such as rock climbing at Columbus Metro Parks Whittier Peninsula and a trip to climbreal rocks in the Hocking State Forest. Participants will be challenged and amazed at their accomplishments as they aim high and achieve success through determination and team work. No experience is required and all equipment and instruction are provided. Participants need to be prepared to perform intense activities and ready to persevere. This is a traveling/off-site program. Audition Workshop Rising 4-8 Session 8 Instructor: Whitney Eads Full (9a-4p) $275 No Half +Plus No Half Do you dream of being on stage, but need some tips to get there? Join us for a week-long workshop and create solid audition packages for your next gig. We will delve into tips and tricks for plays, musicals, memorized pieces, songs, and cold readings. Learn how to choose your material, take notes from directors, make bold choices, and land the part! This camp will culminate in an Audition Showcase on Friday, July 28th for your family and friends! Ballroom and Latin Dance Rising 6-9 Session 5 (M, W-F) Instructor: Inspiration to Movement Staff Full (9a-4p) $230 No Half +Plus No Half Give your child a one-up on their social and dancefloor skills! Ballroom dancing is fun and exciting, a confidence booster, and great exercise. Students will develop the grace, poise, confidence, and coordination that are part and parcel of ballroom dancing. We will explore European and American Ballroom Dances such as waltz, foxtrot, and tango, as well as Latin American Dances such as samba, rumba, and cha cha. Students will take a field trip to the Inspiration to Movement Dance Studio for an exclusive class and dance party in a professional studio setting as well as enjoy a picnic lunch on the beautiful grounds of the Franklin Park Conservatory. Students are required to bring a packed nut-free lunch for the field trip. Be a Junior Counselor at CA Rising 8-11 Session 1-10 Instructor: Kathy Mendenhall Full (9a-4p) $75/week (Sessions 1 and 5: $60/week) Join our dynamic team this summer and put experience on your resume. This opportunity is a hands-on volunteer leadership experience for any student going into eighth through eleventh grade. Duties of a junior counselor include helping with camp activities, supporting a senior counselor, escorting campers, helping with check-in and snack time, and having fun in the sun at Columbus Academy. If you have not had a job before, this program will give you the experience you will need to succeed in your next opportunity and will give you leadership skills that will follow you the rest of your life. By becoming a part of our team, you will have fun, make friends, and learn valuable skills. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion and a review to put in his or her job portfolio. Students and a parent/guardian are required to attend a mandatory orientation on Saturday, June 3, from 12 to 2 pm. This program is limited to ten participants per week, and spaces fill quickly. Beginning Band 101 Rising 6-9 Session 8 Instructor: Mckenzie Vaughn In Beginning Band 101, students playing flute, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, oboe, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion will learn how to assemble and play their instruments, keep a steady beat, read sheet music and play together as a band. This camp is designed to ready students for their first band class in the upcoming school year. Students are required to bring their own instrument as well as cleaning supplies. All other supplies will be provided. Awesome Origami Rising 6-9 Session 9 Instructor: Rachelle Smith Campers will explore the ancient Japanese art of paper folding in this intensely fun camp. We will create a variety of origami projects, and work our way up from simple to more advanced designs. Projects include paper cranes, lilies, water balloons, and fortune tellers, just to name a few. We will also look at Japanese culture as it relates to this special art form. Campers will be excited to show off their new paper folding skills. 36

7 Breaking the Fourth Wall: Acting Camp Rising 6-9 Session 9 Instructor: Mckenzie Vaughn In Breaking the Fourth Wall: Acting Camp, students will immerse themselves in fun and interesting monologues and scenes. They will be able to pick monologues or scenes to perform in the Friday Showcase. Students will strengthen their diction, stage presence and reading abilities. We will play fun and entertaining theater games, use interesting theater warm ups, learn how to audition for a play and improvise on stage as well as discuss where great theaters are located in the Central Ohio area! Students should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes that are good for moving in. No sandals or flip flops. Camp COSI: Design it! Build it! Test it! Rising 6-9 Session 6, 10 Instructor: COSI Staff Full (9a-4p) $300 No Half +Plus No Half Bring science and STEM careers to life this summer with COSI s signature hands-on experience camps! Together we ll explore the design process as we design, build, test, and redesign. We ll also investigate the power of electricity and circuitry, experience the science of living things, and so much more. COSI s brand-new, specialty camps are designed to engage students in real world STEM education. Camp Pinterest Rising 6-9 Session 1 (M-W, F) Instructor: Jennifer McGinnis Full (9a-4p) $230 Half +Plus (9a-1:30p) $145 Half (9a-11:30a) $115 You re invited to the ultimate crafter s experience! Come enjoy a week full of crafty Pinterest projects. Everyday you will create crafts that are out-of-thebox and use a variety of materials. Students will also have an opportunity to find a project on Pinterest that they would like to create. We will take a field trip to the crafts store where they can find the supplies for their project and then go back to school to create their idea. Come explore your creative side and take home tons of your new inspirations and personalized projects! Chess Masters Rising 6-9 Session 6 Instructor: Kyle Jones Chess Masters provides students with the most advanced curriculum to prepare them for tournament play. Students will be given the necessary tools to be able to create reasonable plans in complex positions. Students will learn advanced tactical themes. Each day the students will participate in our very own tournament to put their strategies to the test. Classic Magic Rising 6-9 Session 3 Instructor: Carroll Baker Children love magic, and they really love learning and performing it! Carroll Baker s classes are a great way for your child to have fun learning to become an amazing magician, performer, and presenter. Beyond the entertainment value, magic helps improve digital dexterity, coordination, visual perception, spatial relationships, critical thinking, creativity, public speaking skills, selfconfidence, and imagination. This class will focus on the greatest magic effects of the last 200 years. Each day there will be several different fun group activities, where students will have the chance to work as a team to complete various tasks and games. Along with these endeavors, students will be able to pick a certain team sport they want to play each day to utilize and put these skills into practice. Options for the team sports may include whiffle ball, ultimate football, ultimate Frisbee, kickball, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Students are required to bring a water bottle and wear athletic shoes - no flip flops or sandals. Track & Field Rising 6-9 Session 4 Instructor: Ira Cross Run, jump, and throw! We will have fun getting a brief introduction to track & field. Athletes will have the opportunity to try out some of the basic events of track & field. At the end of our week, we will have a friendly competition based upon everything that we ve practiced and learned throughout the week. Students should wear athletic clothes and shoes (no flip flops or sandals), and bring a water bottle, lots of sunscreen, and a fun attitude! Sports Galore Rising 6-9 Session 2 Instructor: Trinity Gephart Yay Sports! Whether you play football, basketball, soccer, golf or tennis, we can do that! This class is simply about getting out there and being active. After participating in this program, students will have learned valuable lessons in sportsmanship, learned new sports they didn t know existed, and most importantly they will have given their bodies the daily dose of physical activity that they need. 18 Swimming Lessons Greater Columbus Swim School Rising K-8 Session 1-10 Instructor: Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio 8a-9a and/or 4p-5p $65/week (Sessions 1 and 5: $52/week) The Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio teaches Columbus Academy instructional swim lessons in a fun, yet challenging atmosphere. Swim lessons will take place at Academy Pool on CA s campus. The pool depth ranges from 3ft 12ft. Participants are observed and placed in appropriate levels according to their current skill level. They engage in the fundamentals of swimming most appropriate for their ability. Swimmers will be consistently monitored for skill acquisition in order to ensure that they are continually challenged in the pool as their skill level increases. Beginning swimmers will learn the most basic skills needed to become self-sufficient in the water, while swimmers with slightly more advanced skills will be progressed through a series of eight levels, focusing on the proficient acquisition of all four of the competitive swimming strokes (those used in the sport of swimming). Participants will receive a skills accomplishment report at the end of each weekly session. Swimmers will have a great time, will be challenged, and will learn valuable skills. This program can be added to any week s programming. There is a maximum of 16 children per time slot and spaces fill quickly.
