7 Building Character Programmes to balance the Cognitive and Social Moral Developments Social Emotional Learning Skills are taught during the weekly FTGP (e.g. Self Management & Relationship Management Skills) Orientation programme and various platforms have been introduced to enhance Teacher-Student relationship

13 English Programme Reading is Fundamental to Language Learning To nurture a love for reading in all our pupils Reading Activities - Weekly 30-min reading period O What s the hottest news of the month? (Straits Times & Little Red Dot & What s Up only for P6-3 & P6-4) O Book Buzz (DEAR books: common titles & iread books: assorted titles) Post Reading Activities Daily Writes - develop critical thinking & fluency in writing O Writers in the House - to promote a love for writing in our students and to apply, enhance and enrich students writing skills so that they can write to address the Purpose, Audience, Context and Culture (PACC) as presented in the MOE EL Syllabus

14 How You Can Help your child in English O O O Do encourage your children to read (newspaper, magazines, fiction and non-fiction books) Engage your child in conversation about the books or news articles read enquire on their likes & dislikes, their points of view, etc. Set rules on the use of computer at home. Allow your child to use the computer for online homework or online tasks assigned by their teachers (promote self-directed learning at home which are followedup with discussions in class)

22 P6 Art Holistic Assessment Term Topic Semester 1 Visual Literacy and Grid Drawing (AMIS/ Nanyang Artists) Use the grid drawing technique to correctly depict a landscape setting of a scene in Singapore. Radial and Directional Movements Use shapes and colours to create a design that show visual movement.

30 Homework Policy Objectives O contributes toward building self-discipline, responsibility and lifelong learning habits. O provides pupils with the opportunity to consolidate and apply what has been learned in class, complete unfinished class assignments, and develop independence O reinforce classroom learning objectives O allows teachers to check for pupils understanding & progress, so as to provide timely feedback, intervention and support.

32 How Parents can be a Supportive Partner Help your child by checking that they have packed the correct books to school Check your child s school diary for any note from the teachers and their homework Cooperate with the teachers by writing a note to inform us if your child is unwell or under medication so that we can take the extra care

52 Higher Mother Tongue A Sec 1 student is allowed to opt for Higher Chinese, Higher Malay or Higher Tamil if: O he / she is among the top 10% of students based on PSLE scores Or O he / she is among the top 11-30% of students and has scored A* in Chinese/Malay/ Tamil or a merit in HCL/HML/HTL
