1 Mid Term Evaluation Report of EVS Project: "Voice from Around the world" Reported by: CCN Campaign for Change Nepal (CCN) is a non governmental, non political and non profitable organization. CCN has started the EVs project in support of CE.S.I.E, Italy since Now 5 EVs have been working through this organization. During this period, EVs have involved in different issues in community and our partner school s. CCN organized 3 days (23 rd to 25 June 2010) mid term evaluation program to evaluate their working activities in CCN. This program was leading by CCN president and project coordinator Yagya Raj Aryal and program coordinator and mentor Mina Bhattarai in active Participation of 5 EVs Anita, Andrea, Delphine, Mario and Zoe. According to the evaluation program, we have prepared midterm evaluation report. Evaluation of the project's: Logistical aspects: The flat is looking nice and there is no any problem. Volunteers do not proper manage their room and they do not close their room before going outside and after coming back in the room. They call many friends in their flat so house owner is complaining. EVs complained about the rat problem in their flat. In Nepal rat is found everywhere if there is some eating things for them and it is not our control but flat for volunteer is really nice. They do not clean their room and they throw the eating things and different garbage here and there in the room which is really bad things to say for European but it is real. This is only one reason of rat's and corkscrews problem in the room. Delphine moved to guest house from her flat without any information. It is not good way. After 2/3 days she told about the rat's problem. When we knew about the problem, our mentor went in the flat and saw there were a lot of things in the floor inside the room and rats and corkscrews were coming to eat. We told them to clean the room and close the door properly after that this problem had solved easily. Relationship between CCN and Volunteers:

2 There is good relation between CCN and Volunteers. CCN was expecting EVs as excellent in English language skill and have more experience in project and community work. Only some volunteers are good in English and they have not good experience for school and community work. This common misunderstanding is created because we think that due to little information given to EVs by the sending organization about the situation of hosting organization and situation of country. But we when volunteers arrived in Nepal we explained them everything very clearly therefore the relation between CCN and volunteers is nice. We have some problems with Delphine, French volunteer. She made agreement with two schools about participation in different activities in the schools. After short time she did not go to schools without any information so we faced some criticized problem in case of her agreement. Support and trust between each others: In first time EVs wanted to have 24 hour internet facility as they have in Europe. It is not possible in Nepal because we have faced load shedding (electricity) problem daily. So we told them about situation of our country then they realized their over expectation in the case of Nepal. In present they want to make understanding. Integration in the local community: CCN has good relation with different local and national organization, different political party leaders, partner school and the local community which is really suitable for the EVs to integration in the local community as a CCN volunteers. Some days EVs didn't went to work places without pre information and we faced criticized problem from the work places and from activity-wise mentor. We suggested them to inform either CCN office or working places if they can not go. Some of them follow our suggestion but some of them; create really difficulties like Delphine, because she is not following our request, suggestion and advice. She works what she likes and doesn't care to others which is creating the problems to her to integration in the local community and working places but it is not problems for us, we can compromise. Rest of the volunteers are making many friends in community level and really enjoying so much. We are happy with them. Involvement and Experiences of Volunteers and CCN March In the beginning when volunteers arrived in Nepal, we organized welcome program and on arrival training in the presents of Sarah Bel. We organized school visit program and helped for marketing. April CCN was working on mental disabled issue in Sinamangal and Patan School and now it is also running where volunteers are involving regularly. During these month, CCN provided Nepali Language class for EVs. CCN Decided to organize countryside visit program and all EVs were participated in this program for 10 days. Zoe is working on different issues i.e. human trafficking, Research about different issues in Nepal, such as human trafficking, domestic abuse and child exploitation issues Anita developed a new teaching model called VAKE (Values and Knowledge of Education) for Emile Academy. She started to teach health, Social Studies, Population and English subject from Grade VI to X students.

3 May CCN conducted meeting with EVs regularly to know the problems facing by them so that CCN can help and as well as to know the achievements gained by them. EVS visited Machhindranath Temple in Patan with a CCN member. CCN organized a day sharing programme about Buddha to give information about Buddha Jayanti and its cultural importance on 26 th May. After the sharing programme CCN organized a celebration and observation programme for EVS at Boudhanath Temple on Buddha Jayanti. CCN organized a day sharing programme about Republic Day on 28 th May. CCN organized a day observation program to celebrate Republic Day at Tundikhel, Kathmandu on 29 th May. On that day, EVs celebrated Kirat's festival also at Tundikhel. June EVS visited a landless community with CCN members to collect some information to develop a new project. Italian volunteer Andrea shared on a Radio interview about the differences between Italian and Nepali culture, language, and tradition and education system. They are teaching body, counting exercise, English lesson, educative games, drawing and paper craft to the students. Andrea is teaching social education, language and literature of Italy in the school. Mario is involving to observe mental disabled children in Sinamangal and Societal School. Anita is teaching in Patan and Emile Schools. Delphine is involving 2 days for office work and 3 days for SolHimal French NGO according to her interest. Andrea is involving 4 days in school and community work and one day in Office. Zoe is working 3 days in outside project, one day in Sinamangal School and one day in office. Experience of Volunteers and Concrete achievement of CCN Experience of Volunteers After sharing and festival celebration programme, they got knowledge about different Nepalese festival and ritual like Buddha Jayanti, Republic Day and Kirat's Festival etc. Involving in the different schools EVS have developed relationships with kids, parents and teachers. Andrea published his two articles in the Piedmont Regional Youth Social Network about New Years Eve celebration and 1 st May strike. Andrea developed a Social Responsibility programme for the landless community. They got knowledge on Nepali Language and culture. EVs have got good knowledge about how to write a proposal. They got knowledge of the Nepalese political and social scenario. Concrete Achievement of CCN CCN is mobilizing the volunteers in the 4-partner school and a land less community. CCN is starting a new project" Social Responsibility Programme and music and drawing class for students with societal students" through the help of EVS in the landless community. Zoe is helping in the office for proposal writing and editing English language. Monitoring of Volunteers expectations and personal objectives:

4 CCN have been monitoring the activities done by EVs. We have kept daily record of their activities in office, outside project, and activities in the partner schools as well their leave record. We have records of their attendance and the vacation of the EVs. In first month they did not inform us before going outside we suggested them to inform if they do not go to school and office. Nowadays they are informing on CCN before going outside. In Emile Academy teachers are happy with Anita (From Austria). She has taken classes in Grade Eight and Ten. She has found positive feedback from the students. Principle of Emile Academy said that Anita is learning very well. She is interested in teaching and learning and she is found good in her overall activities. In case of Delphine they are not happy because she made agreement with the school teachers to involve two days once a. After short time she did not go to Emile Academy and Sinamangal School for a long time without any information. Principle of Emile Academy said that she was an attentive listener rather than teacher. She is found little slow and quite in nature. She could neither learn nor contribute in expected level. In societal School, students and teachers are very happy from Andrea and Mario. Students are enjoying from their activities and teachers are also very happy. In Sinamangal School teachers were expected skilled volunteers for mentally disable children but they are not so experienced for disable children. Teachers are complaining about their absence for a long time without any information and for long leave at a time. They are expecting skilled volunteers relating to mental disable field for the next project. Teachers and students are interesting to EVs in Patan School. European Volunteers (Anita and Andrea) are involving in the school's activities very interesting and positive way. Concerning the project of Volunteers: Some times some problem appears, then they share with CCN and we help them for their difficulties. For example: They faced problem of rat in their flat. Delphine changed her room from flat to guest house without any information to CCN. But her friends shared this problem; CCN mentor went their flat and suggested them to close door then to clean room everyday. In this way the problem was solved. Intercultural aspects It is not huge problem we are solving different kind of simple problem or challenge by mutual understanding and sharing method. Evaluation of the personal growth and path of learning: Volunteers are involving in different schools, community, and project. They have excellent placements for the personal growth and learning path. They are improving English language than arriving time. Andrea and Mario are involving in societal school.andrea is teaching students about music and drawing, Anita is teaching new teaching model in the school, Zoe is also involving in school and outside project work and Mario is teaching about how to draw picture. All are developing their skill to write new projects as they are involving to develop. This involvement helps them to growth their personal skill. Planning of Andrea: He is planning to find an organization with which he can share the mission and bring the experiences acknowledged in this E.V.S. program and to keep exchange program between the private school and the landless community that he has been developing during these months. Planning of Delphine: After EVS she is planning to search for a job in the public sector or in an NGO, which works on local development or social policies. Planning of Mario: He is thinking to keep on working on project like this and Writing a project on involve in existing one. Planning of Zoe: She wants to work in the social/community sector either in the UK or abroad possibly first completing further studies in social work or counselling. She wants to also apply to work for an international aid agency as a volunteer response team member. Resolution of Past and future conflicts in the Context of each Volunteer's EVs: CCN has networks with many schools, colleges and community. Among them, Anita is teaching Emile School and for mental disabled children in Patan. In this way EVs are participating in the community work and CCN office also supporting them in their work and following their work step by step in order to continue the works even after the return of EVs as CCN is taking work as positively and interesting. Conclusion European Volunteers are involving four partner Schools and community. We are visiting schools and community regularly. In this time we discussed about Volunteers and their work evaluation with teachers and students. Sometimes EVs do not go to school without any information. Teachers are complaining in this absence case. In conclusion we found their activities in schools and community are good. For the further project if they are excellent in only one area (field) it will be better than a little knowledge of all areas. And other thing if they have knowledge about this organization and situation of Nepal before arrival time it is easy to understanding between CCN and European Volunteer and there will not be any problem. In overall activities of EVs, we all are happy and there is good relation between CCN and EVs.
