3 Economic Summit The Economy in Action This two-day conference for secondary educators will debut the Federal Reserve Bank of new permanent exhibit, The Economy in Action. In the tradition of this flagship conference, the 2012 Economic Summit will deal with important and timely economic issues and provide ideas for addressing the conference content in the classroom. The conference content will be drawn from the themes of the new exhibit, including the drivers of the regional economy, the history of central banking in the U.S., the role of the Federal Reserve in the American economy and more. 4 For additional information and registration: International Marketplace The International Marketplace This one-day forum, cosponsored with the Texas Council on, addresses international issues and classroom strategies. Events around the world this past year remind us of the importance of our connections in the global marketplace. Recent events car manufacturers looking to Japan for parts, financial managers watching Europe and the continuing debt crisis, energy companies monitoring activity in the Middle East all focused our attention on the importance of international trade in our daily lives. To thrive in a global society, students require an understanding of actions and reactions around the world. This forum for high school faculty will provide educators with timely information on important global events. Lessons and strategies for incorporating this information into classroom activities will also be provided. 5 Adding the Interactive to Your Whiteboard This one-day workshop is new this year and will feature demonstrations of interactive classroom lessons and activities for economics and personal finance. This hands-on conference allows educators with access to a SMART Board to experience the newest interactive content developed by the Fed for economics and personal finance instruction. Secondary teachers can expect demonstrations of the improved and interactive Building Wealth in the Classroom lessons as well as new lessons on economic concepts and monetary policy. 6 For additional information and registration: Economics BOOT CAMP This three-day workshop trains economics teachers in course-specific content and is designed for teachers with little or no economics experience. Are you new to the role of teaching high school economics? Do you have little formal training in the discipline? Are you overwhelmed by vocabulary, graphs and charts? If you answered yes, Economics Boot Camp is for you. Workshop sessions will be led by economic education specialists with experience in the high school classroom. The content will correlate directly with the TEKS for Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, the Louisiana GLEs and the New Mexico Content Standards. The sessions were relevant and provided me with materials and confidence for the classroom. 8 For additional information and registration: U.S. History Through an Economic Lens U.S. History Through an Economic Lens This new two-day workshop examines economic concepts integral to the high school U.S. history course. Patterned after the successful Economics, this workshop will allow participants to examine important economic concepts and learn creative ways to integrate them into classroom instruction. By looking at the U.S. history course from an economic perspective, students can examine the economic incentives that motivated decisionmaking through the years. Conversation with the Chairman Conversation with the Chairman This town hall event is an opportunity to join educators across the country to hear from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. When you prepare for the next school year late this summer, take some time to have a Conversation with the Chairman. The conversation will be just that, as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will address educators nationwide via videoconference on August 7, His special live message will focus on the critical need for personal finance education in the wake of the recent financial crisis. International Trade Examines the benefits of specialization and trade, using the economic principles of absolute and comparative advantage. It also discusses protectionism and worldwide efforts to open trade. Entrepreneurs Introduces the critical role entrepreneurs play in the economy and highlights the accomplishments of well-known entrepreneurs featured in profiles throughout the text.
