2 President Robyn announced the club will be making a $2,000 donation to the victims of the Nepal earthquake. Eric Anderson gave his vocational talk today. Eric was born in Xenia with Doc Warner the attending physician. He graduated from Xenia High School and attended Ohio State with three of his good friends. That was contrary to his father s advice and as it turned out, none of them graduated from OSU. He joined the Air Force in 1988, hoping to become an officer through the Bootstrap program. Unfortunately, that program ended shortly after he signed up. While in the Air Force Eric monitored personnel who were involved in the nuclear program. It gave him a chance to travel on B-52 s and KC- 135 s. Eric was recruited to play tennis with the base commander at Wurtsmith AFB and eventually that provided him with the opportunity to leave the Air Force after serving 3 years and 9 months. Eric attended Western Michigan University and graduated after 3 years of attendance. He went to work at First America in Kalamazoo working as a collections manager. He would occasionally speak to Aretha Franklin who would rack up a sizeable credit card debt and then pay off the card. He returned to Xenia in 1996 to work for Northwest Insurance, the same as his father and grandfather. He met his spouse while attending Western Michigan and together they have a son, 14, who plays baseball, and a daughter who at 11 is 5-6 tall and into basketball. Eric Anderson Sarge Annie Orders and Fines for the Day Sarge Annie fined Eric $2 for his story about his first day in boot camp. She mentioned the Central State professor who recently won a research award. Denny Morrison picked up the fine for the story about Mary Evang, the safety patrol coordinator for Xenia Community Schools. Mary also serves as the safety patrol advisor for the Miami Valley.

3 Sarge Annie had another hands-on activity for the club. Each member had to tie two pieces of licorice into a knot using only one hand. The winning table paid no fine, the others all had to put in a dollar. The Knot Winners Happy Bucks Brad Montgomery was happy to have played 100 holes of golf and helped raise $8,000 for Interfaith Hospitality Network. Denny was happy to see the astro-turf project scheduled to be finished by the end of the week. Cate Hill offered a buck for the great work of Diane and Denise in support of Field Day. 6 Rotary Tattoos!!!! If Shawnee was an indicator, the tattoos were a huge hit with the students as it was reported by a teacher (the Editor s spouse) that Rotary logos were highly visible on many students the days following Field Day. Program President Robyn Today s program was Committee Day

7 Membership: The committee is working on bylaw changes. A vote of the membership will be taken in a few weeks. Programs: The schedule is completely full through the end of current term Youth: RYLA and Four Way Speech went well. Finding host families remains a challenge. The committee recommends adding Denny Morrison to assist with making a better connection to high school students whose families may be interested in becoming host families in the future. Service Projects: Final details on the fireworks festival are being worked. The club selected a logo for the event. PR: Members are encouraged to fill out the form to help with getting the word out about events and programs. Dave Thompson is the Facebook contact, Adolfo is handling Twitter and looks to connect the Twitter account to Facebook to allow for simultaneous posting. Giving: Any request for financial support of the club begins with the request form which is online. No action is taken until the form has been submitted. Thought For The Day I ve developed new philosophy, I only dread one day at a time.
