They are all rarely seen in the Pacific Northwest! Join us on an exciting road trip exploration of nearby habitats in search of evidence of these elusive creatures while you study our region s native flora and fauna (both real and imaginary), the challenges they face, and the actions you can take to help them out. 6 GRADES 4 6 Science of Sailing with The Center for Wooden Boats Pacific Science Center and Seattle s leading hands-on maritime heritage center, The Center for Wooden Boats (CWB), have teamed up to create a week of fun, science-filled sailing. Delve into the math and physics behind sailing and design. Investigate the convergence of wind, water and weather, as well as the cause and effect of the wind in your sails and your hand at the helm. Spend your morning at Pacific Science Center modeling boats and conducting experiments, then walk to CWB to spend the afternoon sailing 8 wooden El Toro prams in pairs on Lake Union. Do the constellations call out to you, begging to be recognized by name? Study the beginning of the cosmos and soar through space and time in our own Science Center planetarium shows. Prepare for an overnight stargazing adventure by making your own constellation guide. Through a variety of hands-on projects, you are exposed to the tools and techniques professional artists use to create their own 2D and 3D animations. Experience firsthand how each step of the art production process works while developing foundational skills including drawing and sculpting. Two-week program only. Teen volunteers receive training, build their professional resume, meet high school service requirements and gain the rewarding experience of working with children and contributing to their community. This experience is especially valuable for teens who are interested in careers in science, technology or education. Teens must attend mandatory trainings on Saturdays in May, and be able to commit to at least two weeks during the summer. How to Apply The application process includes a written portion and recommendations, followed by interviews. The application is available at pacsci.org/science-educators-in-training and is due February 27, Interviews will take place in late April, and trainings will be held in May. 11 REGISTRATION REGISTRATION DATES Registration opens for Pacific Science Center Members on February 22 at 8:30 a.m. Registration opens for the general public on March 1 at 8:30 a.m. Early bird registration ends April 30. HOW TO REGISTER & PAY All registrations must be made online at pacsci.org/summer-camps with Visa or MasterCard payment. When registering, choose the grade level your child will be entering in fall Full payment can be made when you register; otherwise, a $100 non-refundable deposit per camp is required, with the remaining balance due by April 30. Unpaid balances will be automatically charged on April 30. Registrations made after April 30 require full payment at the time of registration. WAITLIST PROCESS If a camp is full at the time of registration, you can add your child to the waitlist. If an opening occurs, we will notify you by phone and . Openings only occur if someone transfers or cancels their reservation. If the camp is listed as Capacity Full there are no waitlist spots available. TRANSFERS & CANCELLATIONS To transfer your child between camps, call (206) Requests for transfers must be made at least two weeks prior to the camp start date. Cost: $20 per transfer. Requests for withdrawal from camp must be made at least two weeks prior to the camp start date. No refunds will be given within two weeks of the camp start date. A $100 processing fee will be retained per camp session. EXTENDED DAY CARE Morning and afternoon extended day care is available at all locations. Morning extended day care begins at 7 a.m. Cost: $60 for a 5-day camp week or $14 per day. Afternoon extended day care is available until 6 p.m. Cost: $60 for a 5-day camp week or $14 per day. Sign up online at the time of registration. NOTE: Extended care is not available for select partnership camps. CAMPER LUNCH PROGRAM We are pleased to offer this convenient option at Pacific Science Center s main campus, The Overlake School in Redmond and St. Thomas School in Medina for full-day campers or campers participating in both morning and afternoon half-day camps. At St. Thomas School, community lunch and snacks are provided by SAGE Dining and are included in the cost of camp.
