During the past two weeks, the Lexington Public Schools held recognition ceremonies at the Museum of Our National Heritage to honor those teachers who earned Professional Teacher Status and employees who have served 20, 25, 30, 35, or 40 years in Lexington. Professional Teacher Status is awarded to educators who demonstrated high performance standards and completed three consecutive years of service. Last year, 31 Lexington teachers reached this career milestone. In addition, 30 educators, administrators, custodians, and secretaries were honored for serving the Lexington Public Schools for more than 20 years. According to Mr. Bob Harris, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, in the Lexington Public Schools, the achievement of Professional Teacher Status means much more than simply meeting the three-year requirement. He told those in attendance that, In the Lexington Public Schools achieving Professional Teacher Status means that, over the last three years, you as educators have met or exceeded an incredibly high set of professional standards established by the Lexington Public Schools and the Lexington Community at large. In addition, he praised the group for having made a significant contribution to the school system s shared vision of academic excellence for all children. In his comments to both groups of honored employees, Dr. Paul Ash, Superintendent of Schools, said, You have proven that you deeply care about all students and your performance has been exemplary. This will be a great opportunity to learn the details of the application process and to have all your questions and concerns addressed. Space is limited.
