3 ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is the largest and fastestgrowing global professional accountancy body with 404,000 students and 140,000 members in 170 countries. The ACCA qualification is designed to provide the accounting knowledge, skills and professional values which make finance professionals capable of building successful careers across all sectors. There are two examination sessions in June and December each year, and you can sit a maximum of 4 exams per session. The qualification is usually completed within three years. GLOBAL RECOGNITION The ACCA qualification is recognised globally as being the most prestigious qualification in the accountancy profession. Becoming an ACCA member, will provide you with excellent career opportunities in practically any country in the world and will give you the right to use the ACCA designating letters after your name to confirm your professional status. 14 Exams ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ACCA offers you various entry points on to the ACCA Qualification, depending on your previous academic qualifications. Minimum Entry Requirements To register for the ACCA Qualification, the only one that grants the ACCA Membership, you should normally hold an university degree. Students that hold a relevant degree from ACCA accredited institutions may be exempt from all 9 exams of the Fundamentals level and start directly at the Professional level. Degrees that are not accredited by ACCA but still have some relevance may also qualify for exemptions. You can also enter ACCA via these routes: ACCA entry via Foundations in Accountancy For this entry route an academic qualification is not required. 4 Exemptions Exemptions are available for the Fundamentals level of the ACCA qualification. We strongly advise you to visit the ACCA website and use their online exemption system to check your individual eligibility. Fundamentals level It is divided into two key sets of modules that you must complete in order to pass the Fundamentals level and move onto the Professional level: Knowledge module - three papers that introduce you to the core areas of finance and management accounting and give you a platform to develop your skills at the next level. Skills module - six papers that test you on key technical skills that you must master to become a qualified accountant including Law, Performance Management, Taxation, Financial Reporting, Auditing and Financial Management. Professional level The Professional level is the final step towards the ACCA qualification and is equivalent, at an academic level, to a Masters degree, consisting of: Essentials module three compulsory papers that build upon the technical skills you have acquired at the Fundamentals level. They explore advanced professional skills, techniques and values that you will require to be an expert accountant in an advisory or consultancy role at a senior level. Options module you must complete two out of these 4 exams which focus on applying your knowledge and skills in two specific areas of your choice. BSc in Applied Accounting It is possible, while preparing for your ACCA exams, to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting awarded by Oxford Brookes University in the UK. You are eligible to undertake the Oxford Brookes BSc project after completion of the Fundamentals level. To obtain your BSc you need to: Complete a Research and Analysis project based on a 6,500 word report on a topic suggested by Oxford Brookes University. 7 ACCA 2011 Syllabus Update ACCA has updated their syllabus, effective from the June 2011 examinations with the exception of the Knowledge module. This isn't a major syllabus change so there is no need to worry. This is just an update to ensure the qualification is relevant and aligned to the latest business and accounting sector needs.
