3 2. Features of University In 1882, Tokyo Senmon Gakko (the precursor college of Waseda University) was founded by Shigenobu Okuma. In 1902, it was renamed "Waseda University". In 1920 it was chartered under the newly enacted University Act. Features of Graduate School The Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering focuses on areas related to information, machines, electronics, materials, and energy on the foundation of mathematics. The School consists of the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Computer Science and Communications Engineering, the Department of Applied Mechanics, the Department of Electronic and Physical Systems, and the Department of Intermedia Art and Science. The School aims to educate individuals who have ability to think deeply and imaginatively about modern science and technology, as well as the fundamental principles which they are based upon. 4. Message from PEACE participants To me, coming to Japan was a dream and joining Waseda University made my academic life wonderful by learning various fields of updated technology from a world class university and professors although there is a difference between Afghanistan and Japan education systems. In Waseda University, we get great support from professors and also we have good study environment that can teach us many fields of technology which are helpful for our country and future life.
