1 2018 New Student Orientation Jaguar Orientation Schedule Purpose According to the National Orientation Directors Association, the purpose of new student orientation is (1) to help students get oriented to the College; (2) to facilitate a smooth transition to Southern University and A&M College and important people, history, traditions, culture and experiences; (3) and to assist with the overall retention of students. The experience should: a. Provide intentional opportunities to meet and interact with other students, faculty and staff b. Integrate new students into the intellectual, cultural, and social climate of Southern University c. Minimize anxieties of students, parents and families d. Provide information on academic requirements, academic and student support services and other campus resources, and provide an overview of important policies, procedures and processes Orientation Dates Sunday, July 8- Tuesday, July 10 Orientation Session 1 Sunday, July 15- Tuesday, July 17 Orientation Session 2 Sunday, July 22- Tuesday, July 24 Orientation Session 3 Friday, July 27 Orientation Session 4 (Transfer Students) Monday, August 13- Wednesday, August 15 Orientation Session 5 (Out of State Students) Day 1 1:00 pm- 3:30 pm Check-in Go to the Royal Cotillion Ballroom to receive residence hall assignment, Jaguar Starter Bag, and Register for the College Alert System (Information table to remain open until 3:30 pm.) 1:00 pm -3:30 pm Move into the residence halls Lobby of Assigned Resident Hall Residential Life & Housing (Complete move-in by 3:30) 1:30 pm -3:45 pm Alumni Affairs Welcome Tent U. The Campus Police staff work 24 hours a day patrolling the campus and adjacent streets and maintains the emergency communications center, parking, and education and safety programs.
