They come at least once a month for cafeteria visits (except Air Force). 15 Move on When Ready at GPTC Students may choose to participate in dual enrollment at GA Piedmont Technical College on either a parttime or full time basis. GPTC faculty teach some classes at the Newton College and Career Academy. Students may take core academic courses that will transfer to most 4-year colleges in Georgia. 20 ACT and SAT Tests It is recommended that students take the ACT or SAT for the first time in the spring of their junior year. Juniors should plan to take the SAT in March 2016 or later due to the test being redesigned. Required for admissions into four-year colleges and universities. Some two-year colleges do require either test for admissions. Please check the admissions requirements on each school s website. The ACT has an optional Writing section; the Writing section on the SAT is currently mandatory. Beginning in March 2016, students taking the SAT will be able to register for the SAT with or without taking the SAT Essay.

The majority of colleges/universities accept both tests for admissions purposes and do not prefer one over the other. It is not necessary for students to take both tests.

Students may test as many times as they would like to. However, studies have shown that scores begin to drop on and after the third attempt. The COMPASS test is normally given for placement in most two-year colleges in Georgia. ACT and SAT Neither test is required for admissions into a technical college. Placement tests are given. The ASSET test is normally given for placement in most technical colleges in Georgia.

23 SAT Registration and the NEW SAT (March 2016 and beyond) Registration NHS is a test center for both the October and May SAT sessions Sections on the redesigned SAT (first offered in March 2016): Reading, Writing and Language, Math, and Essay (optional) Like the ACT, the redesigned SAT will measure achievement. However, the SAT will measure fewer things more deeply while the ACT will continue to measure skills across a large domain.
