1 AUSTRALIA FUTURE UNLIMITED: ELICOS EXPERIENCE An opportunity for Thai students to experience the quality of English language courses delivered by Australian ELICOS providers. About this event Following the successful launch of the Sample English Class Initiative in 2011, Austrade Bangkok will again run an experiential ELICOS event in The event will promote the Australian ELICOS sector in a unique way, by inviting prospective students and members of the public in Thailand to experience a free English class demonstration in the Bangkok metropolitan area. A minimum of two and a maximum of four Australian ELICOS providers will participate. The class demonstrations will consist of four sessions of three hours duration each (two classes will run concurrently during each session) on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June Why you should participate Promote your institution s profile, including English language courses through designated media coverage both online and in printed publications in Thailand. Potential for participating institutions to increase student recruitment and engagement from a qualified list of potential students both during and post event. Opportunity to offer the audience a direct insight into the quality of Australian teaching and the learning experience. Create awareness of your institution in the minds of education agents invited to attend and take part in the event. Who should attend? University English language centres ELICOS providers aligned with or incorporated in vocational colleges Privately-owned ELICOS providers. Target audience Members of the public who are interested in utilising English language skills abroad for various purposes such as for business, everyday communications, IELTS preparation etc. University students, school leavers, recent graduates, academic people who intend to pursue tertiary studies in an English-speaking country, but whose English competency is insufficient. Current secondary school students and their parents who are looking for short English courses during school vacations or those interested in completing a high-school qualification in Australia. Those who influence the decisions of prospective students such as teachers and academics at schools, colleges and universities - so they can advise their students to participate. 2 Market insights The ELICOS sector became the second largest education sector for Thais studying in Australia in 2011 according to Australian Education International s (AEI) s statistics.. There is strong demand amongst Thai people for English language study in a native English speaking country, and who select the destination country based on affordability. In preparation for Thailand s entry into the single economic entity, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, the Thai government has encouraged all education institutions and Thai citizens to increase their English communication capability in order to be able to communicate with neighbouring countries. Most private and government education institutes have allocated a large amount of budget for English language training for their employees as well as providing sponsorships for a number of local academic staff to complete a doctoral degree abroad in order to upgrade the national education standard. However, the majority of academics would require English-language revision prior to pursuing a doctoral degree. English language competency is an essential pathway to further education abroad and a tool to succeed in careers. By providing prospective Thai students with an Australian ELICOS experience, the likelihood that students will think favourably of Australia as a destination for their studies in high school, vocational and degree courses should increase. Please note: The ELICOS Experience 2012 will be offered free of charge to attendees. The English proficiency of attendees, together with other details, including their overseas study intentions, will be gathered via online registration. Attendees will be segmented by level of proficiency and course choice in order to enhance their experience of the sample classes and enable classes to be delivered at an appropriate level.

4 Estimated audience size Sessions will be limited to approximately students. ELICOS Experience Sessions The theme and content of each session will be determined by participating institutions and Austrade, and will be primarily based on the requirements of the prospective students attending the classes and the English outcomes they are seeking to achieve, e.g. EAP, Business English, General English. There will be a total of eight sessions over the two-day event. Each session will last three hours and will include: 2.5 hours teaching period 15 minutes break 15 minutes certificate presentation and institution briefing. Advertising and promotion Black & white advertisement in The Bangkok Post, daily English Newspaper size 4x7 inches for 8 days. Black & white advertisement in education section, Kom Chad Luek daily Thai language newspaper size 4.31x5 inches for 5 days. Coloured web banner advertisement on size 80 x 80 pixels for 1 month. 150 copies of colour-printed flyers sized A3 and A4 circulating to 150 education institutions including schools, vocational colleges, private and government universities. Inclusion of promotion of the event during Study in Australia presentations delivered for students, staff in schools and universities around Bangkok. Promotion of the event through Austrade s Study in Australia (SIA) Thai-version website, including corresponding with prominent Thai schools and universities to publicise the event online via their websites. Mail out to 120 education agents in Thailand s database and via Agent e-newsletters. Mail out to 3000 members in Alumni database. Placement Test Austrade is not able to provide a means of independently assessing the English proficiency of participants in the ELICOS Experience Attendees will be asked to provide an estimate of their proficiency at the time of registration. If providers would prefer the proficiency of participants to be assessed by an independent entity prior to the classes commencing, we recommend this be done in consultation with the organisation s authorised education agent in Thailand. Agent participation Participating providers may opt to invite one of their Thai agents to assist them during each session of the English classes. Agents may assist the provider to answer enquiries and capture leads before and after the classes.

5 Your participation options The decision regarding which option will operate is at the discretion of Austrade, and will depend on the level of interest from ELICOS providers in the event. In the case of more than four institutions expressing an interest, we will allocate places based on a first come, first served basis. A$2500 Each institution pays A$1930 which includes: Class room venue including equipment hire Advertisement cost in the Bangkok Post, daily English newspaper Advertisement cost in Kom Chad Luek, daily Thai newspaper Advertisement cost online at Design and printing of promotional flyers to distribute to Thai education institutes Certificates of Attendance Lunch and coffee breaks Photography and video filming Each institution pays A$570 (3 A$190 per hour) which includes: Inspection and selection of the venue for the event Preparation of promotional activities, event management and on-site liaison Marketing campaigns pre, during and post event to target potential attendees Media invitations and post-event public relations Two Austrade staff members on hand to assist and support institutions in classes Managing attendee registration and confirmation capabilities Option 2 Four institutions (two sessions per institution) A$1250 Each institution pays A$965 which includes: As above Each institution pays A$285 (1.5 A$190 per hour) which includes: As above N.B. The four participating institutions must each conduct one session on both Saturday and Sunday at alternate times. Deposit: Austrade requires a non-refundable 30% deposit for all international events where the value of the package is over $1500. The payment term for the deposit amount is 7 days from invoice date. Payment of the deposit reserves your place on the event, but your place is not fully secured until the entire fee is paid. Please refer to the event Terms & Conditions for further detail. Non-payment of the deposit by the applied deadline will result in the forfeit of your reserved place on the event. For packages of $1500 or less, full payment is required with payment terms as per the invoice provided. The direct cost and Austrade service fee form part of the total package and you cannot purchase one without the other.
