The HNC group were really supportive, which was vital as it s quite a challenge being a female in construction. I feel that I ve really proved myself and I m not stopping now. 3 Access to Higher Education (HE) The Access to Higher Education courses available at Warrington Collegiate prepare students for higher level study at university or college. The courses are designed for individuals who would like to study for a Higher Education qualification but do not currently have a Level 3 qualification. To achieve an Access to HE Diploma, you will complete a programme of study which includes theoretical input and study skills. You will learn how to approach study and gain knowledge on the different techniques needed to be a successful student. The course is designed to ensure that you are thoroughly equipped for Higher Education. The syllabus for the course was ideal for me, it was exactly what I was looking for. The course has provided me with much more than an additional qualification. I would like to think that I have broadened and strengthened my understanding of business and now try to look at things differently. I have now moved on to the HND Business qualification, before progressing on to Level 6 at the University of Chester.

4 Higher Vocational Education The BTEC Level 4 HNCs and BTEC Level 5 HNDs are widely recognised by employers, universities and professional bodies. A Higher National student will develop higher level technical skills and management skills required by employers. All programmes are offered on a part-time (PT) basis. Additionally, programmes marked* may be offered on a full-time (FT) basis, subject to demand. On completing a HND, students often progress to the final year/level of degree programmes. 6 Financial Support for HNC/HND and Teacher Training courses Our tuition fees are considerably less than those charged at most universities, meaning that you have less debt to pay back. Tuition Fees If you plan to study higher education at Warrington Collegiate in 2012/13, you will not have to pay for tuition fees upfront. Every new student is entitled to a Tuition Fee Loan, that will cover your fees and this won't be paid back until you start earning over 21,000 a year. Even then, you will only repay 9% of your earnings over this amount. Both full and part-time students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan. For further information about Tuition Fee Loans, visit Support with Living and Study Costs As a Higher Education student you can apply for a range of financial help with living and study costs, loans (which have to be paid back), and grants which don't have to be paid back. Maintenance Loan to help with Living Costs Eligible students can get up to 4,375 depending on your household income. Maintenance Grant to help with Living Costs This can be up to 3,250, depending on your household income. Household Income, How much? Household income: 25,000 or less: maximum 3,250 grant Household income: 25,000-42,600: Partial grant, depending on household income Household income: more than 42,600: No grant For further information about Maintenance Loans and Grants, visit: Repaying your Loan If you start your course in 2012/13, you will not start repaying your student loan until 2016, even if you leave your course and earn above 21,000 before then. The amount that you will repay will depend on how much you earn and not how much you owe. When you are earning over 21,000 you will pay 9% of your earnings over this amount. 8 Funding Information for Professional courses Regional Growth Fund The Regional Growth Fund (RGF) is a 1.4bn fund to be used across England over a three-year period ( ) to support projects that stimulate sustainable economic growth. The second bidding round, completed at the end of July 2011, has seen an oversubscribed interest resulting in combined bid applications to the value of 3.3bn. The successful bids will be distributed through LEPs (Local Enterprise Partnership) and other co-financing organisations within regions across England. Bids have been received from a range of organisations and collective groups including universities, charities and social enterprises, all of which are eligible under the RGF programme. European Funding The European Social Fund (ESF) allocates grant money directly from the European Government to the UK to address specific identified social needs. Any training provider or employer in the public, private or third sector can apply for ESF funding, and ILM Centres and Providers are well placed to qualify for support to deliver NVQ s, VRQ s, Endorsed and Development Awards, providing they demonstrate an effective solution to the ESF application criteria.
