A program of Michigan State University (MSU) Extension, Michigan 4-H is the largest youth development program in the state and offers young people the opportunity to engage in any number of programs that meet their interests. For youth looking to join 4-H in Ingham County, enrollment in 2015 will be easier than ever, thanks to the new enrollment program, 4-H Online. 4-H Online offers Ingham County families the advantage of enrolling in 4-H from any convenient location using the Internet. In addition, 4-H Online will allow families to access their children s 4-H enrollment record at any time ensuring each 4-H member s information is up-to-date at all times. In Ingham County, youth are engaged in 4-H programs that use an experiential learning model to teach youth a variety of valuable life skills and provide them with the opportunity to have fun and learn new things. Facilitated by caring adult volunteers and county MSU Extension staff members, these programs have been shown to have a positive impact on youth s academic success, workforce preparation, and leadership and civic engagement. In addition, a 2013 Tufts University study showed that, compared with their peers, 4-H members are: - Two times more likely to make healthier choices (grade 7). - Two times more likely to be civically active (grades 8-12). - Two times more likely to participate in science, engineering and computer technology programs during out-of-school time (grades 10-12). - Four times more likely to make contributions to their communities (grades 7-12). With so many benefits to joining 4-H, Ingham County youth will be eager to join any of the county s 43 4-H clubs, which focus on topics such as outdoor education, animal science, career preparation, science, technology, engineering, math and more. With the added convenience of the new online enrollment system, 4-H families will be able to join the club no matter where they are. Ingham County youth may begin the enrollment process today by visiting or contacting the Ingham County 4-H Office at Adults interested in serving as 4-H volunteers are also encouraged to contact the MSU Extension office. For more information about 4-H project areas or the Michigan 4-H program, call Daniel or Mark at
