22 Coalition Aims and Values Coalition aims to develop a platform that will provide a supportive college exploration and application process Underlying values include: Admissions process benefits from continued innovation, improvement, and change Early engagement supports under-resourced students during college preparation Technology can help level the playing field in college exploration Together members can do more to meet goals than through stand-alone institutional efforts 22
23 What Does the Coalition Offer? Offers a single, integrated platform to plan, build, organize, and engage students throughout the college process Simplifies the application process to Coalition member schools not currently served by other shared online application services Allows students to engage with their support network (school counselors at schools without a college planning technology platform, CBOs, or mentors) Platform is fully responsive and adaptive, accessible through any computer, tablet, or mobile device 23
24 Why did Rutgers Join? Coalition provides Rutgers-New Brunswick access to a national application platform Coalition provides Rutgers-New Brunswick with efficiencies and functionalities not previously available to us from other platforms Our experience in successfully educating firstgeneration and underrepresented students can help shape the Coalition s development 24
25 What about College Access? The Coalition is acting on its mission of access via the outreach initiatives of its individual members to underserved students and the advisors who work with them, and through its independent outreach as a consortium to organizations that serve these students The Coalition offers a free space for school counselors and mentors to engage with their students, monitor their progress, provide advice on required courses, and advise on application steps Platform is especially important for schools and CBOs not serviced by existing technology The interest and commitment to access is one that the Coalition and its member institutions recognize needs our active involvement, and will not be fulfilled without the experience of counselors and mentors who serve under-resourced students 25
26 How will the Coalition be used by Rutgers-New Brunswick? Rutgers-New Brunswick will add the Coalition Application to our current application options Students will have a choice of either platform for 2017 We will provide clear instructions about admissions criteria and required documents for students using the Coalition Application. Requirements will be the same regardless of the application platform students use 26
27 Rutgers and the Coalition Rutgers-New Brunswick will be a choice on our traditional Undergraduate Admissions application platform Students interested only in New Brunswick schools may use either the Coalition Application or the local Rutgers application Students interested in Rutgers-Camden and/or Rutgers-Newark, alone or in conjunction with Rutgers- New Brunswick, must use our Rutgers application platform Students will receive equal admissions consideration when using either application platform Students should choose the one that best suits their needs 27
28 Requirements on the Coalition We will continue to require the Self Reported Academic Records (SRAR) for all current high school seniors A SRAR is included on the Coalition We will not request any additional documents from/for the Coalition that are different from what is requested on our local application We will request the same extracurricular, community service, family obligations, and employment on each application platform 28
29 Virtual Locker A private and optional repository for select works students choose to upload and save throughout high school The Locker and its contents are not visible to colleges and universities, and colleges and universities will never have access to student Lockers The Locker is private, accessible only to the student with his/her login credentials Students must take deliberate action to share an item out of the Locker 29
