5 How To Apply Registration To ensure a place on your chosen programme we recommend that you register as soon as possible. Certain programmes are restricted to a limited number of applicants and places on these programmes are assigned on a first come first served basis. Online Application Forms 2015 To apply for entry onto a programme, log onto the IT Carlow website (www. itcarlow.ie) and follow the link to the part-time programmes section. The application form is located in the How To Apply section. Once an application has been successfully submitted, applications will receive an automatic reply by . Entry Requirements All programmes have their own entry requirements. Please refer to the relevant programme page for detailed entry requirements. 4

6 FEE PAYMENT REGULATIONS In general, all fees should be paid in full before the commencement of the course. For the 2015/16 academic session, where course fees exceed 1000, the following payment options will apply: Option 50% of fees must be paid with application (where a course fee is under 1,000, the entire fee must be paid before the course starts) A 1,990 - discounted fees may be paid in full or 1,000 to be paid on application ( 300) reduction in fees = 1,990 Balance paid by Sat 12th September 2015 B 2,290-50% of full fees 1,145 due on application Balance of 1,145 paid by Tues 1st October 2015 C Phased Payment as follows: 50% course fees on application Fri 30th October 2015 Fri 27th November 2015 Total Fee 2,330 (basic fee + 40) 1, Key Date Students with outstanding fees on 30th November 2015 will automatically move to phased payment option D and will incur the extra charge applied to this option. 7 6 Springboard What is Springboard? Springboard provides free, part-time places in higher education for people who are unemployed or previously self-employed in order to help them get back to work. Who is Eligible? To be eligible for a place on a Springboard 2015 programme a person must be: Unemployed* with a previous history of employment AND satisfy one of the following three criteria: - Be in receipt of one of the following payments from the Department of Social Protection: Jobseekers Benefit Jobseekers Allowance One Parent Family Disability Allowance Qualified Adults of Working Age Carers Allowance Farm Assist/Fish Assist Widow(er)s Contributory or Non-Contributory Pension Blind Pension Deserted Wives Allowance There is no requirement to be in receipt of a payment for a particular period of time prior to the commencement of the programme. Participants in receipt of an eligible payment at the time the Springboard course commences are eligible to apply for a place on that course. However, providers will be required to give priority to applications from people who are long term unemployed People participating in the Community Employment Scheme; the Rural Social Scheme; Tús; JobBridge or in receipt of the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance or the Short Term Enterprise Allowance may apply for Springboard and, with the approval of a Department of Social Protection Case Officer, take up a Springboard course. To participate in a NFQ Level 9 (Post Graduate) course, a period of at least one year must have elapsed since completing a full time undergraduate degree course leading to a major award at Level 8 on the NFQ. Further information on eligibility is available on How To Apply for a Springboard Course Once the courses are advertised as open for applications all Springboard applications are made online at To make an application you will need to complete a short registration process and then fill out an online application form. It is important that you fill out the online application form as fully and completely as you can in order to make a valid application and in order to best make your case for a place. OR Be signing for social insurance contribution credits OR Be previously self-employed AND Be actively seeking employment * For the purposes of determining eligibility for Springboard the term unemployed also includes people who are on short term working and in receipt of a Jobseekers payment from the Department of Social Protection.

9 WICKLOW COUNTY COUNCIL S WELCOME Wicklow County Campus is being developed by Wicklow County Council in conjunction with IT Carlow and other stakeholders as a Centre of Excellence in Enterprise, Education and Innovation with the third level college acting as a catalyst for Economic Development in the County. IT Carlow in partnership with Wicklow County Council is providing a range of part-time Lifelong Learning Education and Training Programmes aimed at supporting business in the County. Wicklow County Council has been working on an ongoing basis with the national and local development agencies including the IDA, EI, the County Enterprise Board, VEC, and Chambers of Commerce etc in order to achieve the vision contained in the Strategic Plan for the Campus. In 2010 a working group comprising many different interests prepared a Vision document following a request for submissions from the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Enterprise Trade and Innovation. The Vision document seeks to develop Wicklow County Campus as a Centre of Excellence in Enterprise Education and Innovation, placing renewable energy technologies and sustainable design at its core. In order to advance this vision it is hoped to obtain funding to prepare a business/marketing plan. Wicklow County Campus is an ideal venue for business with a state-of-the-art Conference Centre and spacious meeting rooms, all set in magnificent surroundings. We are delighted to see that there are over 330 students studying on the Campus at present and we hope that this number will grow significantly in the years ahead. 10 PRESIDENT S WELCOME Welcome to the Institute of Technology Carlow Wicklow County Campus Lifelong Learning (LLL) Prospectus , which provides details of our part-time, evening and adult higher education programmes in Wicklow. The Institute of Technology Carlow is one of the largest providers of Higher Education LLL Programmes in the country with part-time learners currently accounting for over 36% of the total learner population of the Institute. Through our LLL programme in Wicklow County Campus, you can choose from a varied curriculum with qualifications, both at undergraduate and post-graduate level, in a wealth of subject areas including Business (Management, Supply Chain Management), Humanities (Professional Social Care & Early Childhood Education and Care), Engineering (Energy Management), ICT, Digital Media and many more. We keep our programmes relevant to the real opportunities in the commercial marketplace. We work very closely with industry to maintain this relevance. Some programmes are specific to certain centres so please check this prospectus and the indices at the back for the exact locations of the various programmes. All programmes are accredited by the Institute of Technology Carlow, QQI and / or other national and international providers. The Wicklow County Campus is staffed by highly qualified and professional tutors and lecturers, all dedicated to providing learners with a high quality learning experience. We understand that while part-time, evening and adult learners share many of the same challenges that face all higher education students, additional family and career matters can also apply. That is why our programmes are designed to provide maximum choice and flexibility to learners. While the majority of our learner population choose to take a full 60-credit programme stage in a single academic year, others decide to pursue one or two programme modules, gradually building up the credits necessary to obtain a major award at Degree, Honours Degree, Higher Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and/ or Master s Degree level. The choice is yours and I hope that you will find something of interest to you in this prospectus. This programme is being offered as a direct response to the introduction of the free school year in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECCE scheme) by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. This programme is designed for graduates of Social Care who are working in the Early Childcare sector and who do not hold the necessary qualification for the ECCE scheme. All successful applicants will have to complete 500 hours of Supervised Professional Practice as part of this Higher Diploma. Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education & Care, the applicant must hold a minimum Level 7 qualification in social care or its equivalent and will be working in the early years sector. Garda vetting is required for this programme. Offers on this programme are conditional and could subsequently be withdrawn if applicants do not meet the Garda Vetting requirements. This one-year graduate Higher Diploma programme is designed for graduates of non-business disciplines in order to equip them with the necessary knowledge and competencies in management and business. It will provide graduates with an in-depth understanding of the contemporary Prior Learning (RPL) application form available through LLL. The RPL policy of the Institute allows applicants without a Level 8 qualification in a recognised area to be afforded the opportunity of submitting a portfolio to support their application. This Higher Diploma aims to provide suitable candidates with the knowledge, competencies and skills necessary to work and succeed in the general insurance industry at a provider (insurer) and advisor (broker) level. The programme will provide students with expertise in the areas of Risk, Underwriting, Principles of Insurance, Financial Regulation, Ethics, Personal Lines Insurance, Commercial Insurance, Specialist Products and Claims. Progression Routes It would be envisaged that the graduates of this programme would also earn exemptions from professional exams and certification for Authorised Product Adviser (APA) status in Personal and Commercial Insurance. Learning Outcomes On completion of this programme, students will have knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry and also further develop their intellectual and practical skills via the analysis and evaluation of the insurance process. The programme will involve lectures, practical work, company visits and guest lectures. The teaching will involve traditional lectures plus use of the managed learning environment of the Institute which includes areas such as elearning, discussion boards, and moderated online debates. What are the minimum entry requirements? Programme participants are required to hold an NFQ Level 7 or Level 8 major award. In accordance with RPL policy and procedure applicants without a Level 7 or 8 qualification in business will be afforded an opportunity to submit an application in line with IT Carlow s RPL Policy. Progression routes from this programme This qualification will allow the participant to apply for the MBA or MB, depending on his/her business experience, and continue to develop and extend his/her skills base and knowledge at Level 9. What are the minimum entry requirements? Applicants require an NFQ Level 8 Award or equivalent, for entry to this programme. Other applicants will be considered on an individual basis in accordance with the Institute policy on RPL. The RPL policy of the Institute allows applicants without a Level 8 qualification in a recognised area to be afforded the opportunity of submitting a portfolio to support their application. This portfolio should detail applicant s work and education experience. All applicants who submit a portfolio will be interviewed in order to determine their suitability for the programme. 73 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Programmes awarded by IT Carlow The National Framework of Qualifications includes all education and training awards (schools, Institutes of Technologies, Universities) offered in Ireland and relates them to each other. This section briefly explains the award types and gives an overview of the main features of these awards. Definitions Programme: The course. Award: The qualification at the end of the programme. Module: The individual subject studied. Each programme is made up of modules. A module has a specific content, assessment tasks and credit value. The credit value of a module is linked to the volume of learning covered and the academic demands placed on the student. A credit is a way of measuring the amount of learning undertaken by a student. This will normally include time you devote to your studies, teaching time through lectures, work for assignments and private time. Credits are gained when you have successfully completed the assessments and/or exams for that module. IT Carlow uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), in which 1 ECTS credit corresponds to approximately 20 to 25 hours of learning time. One advantage of ECTS is that it is internationally recognised by European and international universities. Some modules of our programmes are offered on a stand alone basis e.g. Psychology from our Social Studies Programme. This means you study the module at the same level as those doing the full programme and you receive the same credits but you only cover that one module. 74 OUR AWARDS MAY BE CLASSIFIED UNDER THREE HEADINGS: Major Awards - are the principal class of awards, e.g. Honours Bachelor Degree at Level 8 such as the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Law. Minor Awards - are linked to a Major Award and they provide recognition for learners who achieve a range of outcomes, but not the specific combination of learning outcomes required for a Major Award, e.g. Diploma in Law. Special Purpose Awards - are made for specific, relatively narrow, purposes for example the Certificate in Electrical Principles. We offer several different types of Awards A Certificate: is awarded for programmes at level 6, with 60 credits or less and can be achieved in one-year e.g. Certificate in Administrative Law. A Diploma: is awarded for programmes with more than 60 credits but less than 120 credits and would require two or more years, e.g. Diploma in Law. This example is a Minor Award linked to our Honours Degree in Law. A Higher Certificate: is awarded for programmes at Level 6 with 120 credits and would require two-years study, e.g. Higher Certificate in Business. This is a Major Award. An Ordinary Bachelors Degree: is awarded for programmes at Level 7 with 180 credits and would require, on average, three years study, e.g. Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Studies. This is a Major Award. An Honours Bachelors Degree: is awarded for programmes at Level 8 with a minimum of 180 credits and would require a minimum of four years part-time study, e.g. Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Management. This is a Major Award. Masters Degree: is awarded for programmes at Level 9 with a minimum of 90 credits and would require a minimum of 2 years part-time study, e.g. Master in Business Administration / Master in Business. 75 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 74 Course Accreditation Students registering for Lifelong Learning programmes should be aware that, all programmes offered in this prospectus have undergone or are in the process of undergoing validation under the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999 and information is correct at the time of going to press. Fees and Refund Policy Programme fees quoted are for the academic year and are subject to change over the duration of the programme. Students taking leve 6, 7 or 8 courses of 1 year duration or longer where course fees exceed 1,000 and who opt to pay full course fees by Friday 12th September 2015 will be eligible for a 300 reduction in the cost of their course fees. (a) Course fees are expected to be paid in full at the commencement of the course. IT Carlow recognises that some students may have difficulties in paying the full amount in one transaction thus the Lifelong Learning Centre has created a number of fee payment by installment options. All such applications will be treated in confidence. In general, fee payment by installment applications will only be considered for fees in excess of 1,000. Students who apply for and are granted a fee payment by installment plan should note that failure to meet the payment dates set down for their payment scheme, in particular key dates, may: be denied access to Blackboard be prevented from sitting examinations in December, May or August as applicable have all other assignment / exam results withheld until payments are made assignments will not be accepted nor will a late submission for an assignment be accepted after late payments are made pay an additional surcharge. (b) Students in receipt of employer sponsorship etc. will be required to submit a letter of confirmation of grant eligibility from their granting authority in lieu of fees. They must also include a Purchase Order Number for invoice purposes. Where fees have not been paid by the sponsor within thirty days after issue of the invoice, it is the responsibility of the student to then pay the fee and claim back fees from their sponsor. (c) Repeat students will be required to pay relevant examination fee when applying to sit the repeat. (d) The Lifelong Learning Centre has a strict policy in relation to Refund of Course Fees and a fees refund or a percentage of same will only be given in the following circumstances: A full refund will be given if requested in writing before the commencement of the course. Where a student leaves within two weeks of the start of a short course (10-13 weeks), 70% refund of the course fee will apply. Outside this two week period there will be no refund of fees. For long courses i.e. those of one-year duration or longer, a percentage of fees refund will be given over the first nine weeks of the course as per table 1. Thereafter there will be no refund of fees. The refund calculation is based on the full fee for the course not the amount that a student may have paid under a fees payment installment agreement. The fees refund calculation is based on the date that the student formally applies in writing to withdraw from the course. All courses will run subject to sufficient numbers. Where a course has to be cancelled those students who have registered and paid will be refunded in full. Receipts must be retained and produced when requesting a refund of course fees which must be applied for on the official refund form.

Student Process It is the responsibility of the applicant to gather the information together in order to allow a Course Team assess an exemption application. An incomplete submission will not be considered and there is potentially a financial impact to the applicant if the application is delayed (see Restrictions below). Delays in receiving information from another third level college are not the responsibility of IT Carlow, thus applicants are advised to start the exemption process as early as possible. This means that the applicant must provide: Completed application form, submitted by the closing date Necessary fee A copy of the academic transcript(s) related to the exemption A copy of the syllabus describing the Learning Outcomes of the module(s). Restrictions Exemptions are not granted for any module of the award year of a degree or for a module of a Higher Diploma, Bachelor of Science in Management (Craft) or Energy Management (Buildings) or of a Masters Programme. Applications for exemptions must be made by Friday 25th September 2015 for all modules to be studied in the Academic Year Applications received after this date will only be considered if the applicant has paid full course fees. 75 An example is a student who has completed a Higher Certificate in Business would be considered for entry onto Year 3 of the Bachelor of Business degree.
