2 Welcome to Guilsborough Academy Sixth Form Class of 2018 Key dates Sixth Form Enrolment Day & GCSE Results day - Thursday 24 th August (All students who wish to study at Guilsborough Academy Sixth Form will be allocated a member of the Sixth Form team to see on results day) Y12 first day of term - Tuesday 5th September Grafham Water trip - Friday 15th September Y12 Tutor meet and greet - Thursday 5th October 5-7pm For those students who will also require a bus pass for September 2017 it is a requirement that you fill out the Northamptonshire County Council transport form which can be found on the Academy s website; The forms must be sent directly to Northamptonshire County Council. Your year group are also our pilot cohort for the Green Transport Subsidy. This entitles you to claim 20% back (to a maximum of 120 if 600 paid) at the end of a successful year with us. 3 GRAFHAM WATER Team building and Water Sport Activities Guilsborough Sixth Form are planning a trip to Grafham Water Centre for the new Year 12 students on 15 th September We feel that this trip will enable students to get to know each other and help develop their team work and communication skills. 4 Guilsborough Academy Sixth Form Team Dress Follow all of the requirements of the Sixth Form dress code (please see separate dress code leaflet) and remember that you are a role model for your younger peers If you are dressed inappropriately, you will be sent home to change, if this isn t possible, you will have to work in isolation. To wear your lanyard at all times in and around the school grounds. 5 Guilsborough Academy Sixth Form Academic Contract This contract lays out our expectations of you as a student in Guilsborough Sixth Form. Please read and consider it carefully. As a member of the Sixth Form, you are expected to fully uphold each of the responsibilities shown. Failure to meet the expectations outlined, could lead to a review and ultimately the retraction of a place in Guilsborough Sixth Form. The Headteacher s decision on this matter will be final. Academic Commitment Give your very best to achieve academically. To speak to a member of staff if you are experiencing any problems. Take responsibility for your own learning both within and beyond the classroom Develop life priorities that enable you to achieve or exceed your targets. Complete at least four hours of private study for each subject, each week, consisting of: o 1 hour of supervised study per subject in school and o Up to 3 hours of independent study for each subject each week Meet all deadlines set by subject and pastoral staff. To be organised and prepared for lessons as well as use all study time effectively To attend all supervised study and Student Improvement Plan sessions and make full use of the support being offered to you be your teachers and the Sixth Form team. To ensure that you are using your time effectively at home to complete outstanding work and additional wider reading. Behaviour and Conduct Recognise that you are a role model as a senior member of the school community and model the highest standards of behaviour at all times. Respect the authority of our teachers and of other staff communicating in a polite and appropriate manner Demonstrate excellence in the way you take the responsibility of an independent learner so others will follow your example. Take responsibility to challenge the poor behaviour of others e.g. by leading on the buses. Attendance Maintain 100% attendance. Arrive by 8.45am and to be in the appropriate place when the bell rings i.e. seated for assembly, in your form room etc. Achieve 100% punctuality. Ensure your tutor is informed when you are absent for a good reason by parent / phone call. If you need to leave school during the school day, you must sign out with Mrs Ponting and must have a note from your Parents/Carers (or an must have already been sent to Mrs Ponting), stating the reason for needing to leave school. DEVELOPING INDEPENDENCE Wider studying, running or being involved in committees that are ran by the Middle Leadership Team in Year 13. ENRICHMENT / MENTORING All students will be involved in one form of mentoring per week and will complete an hour of enrichment per week.

To take responsibility for your own learning, including extensive wider reading. RESPECTFUL Respect the working environment within the school and use these areas correctly during private study. Maximum of four students sat around a pair of tables (which are not to be moved). All litter to be placed in the bin. ROLE MODEL To maintain high standards of dress (smart casual). To maintain high standards of behavior, both in the Sixth Form areas and around the rest of the school and local community. ENGAGED, CURIOUS AND INQUISITIVE To help create an inspirational learning culture by taking ownership. To have a relevant question for discussion at the start of every lesson.

7 PUNCTUAL GUILSBOROUGH ACADEMY SIXTH FORM EXPECTATIONS To be punctual To be organised To be responsible To be respectful To be a role model to others To be engaged, curious and inquisitive Prompt attendance for the start of school (8.40am) and to all timetabled classes, tutorials, assemblies and additional commitments undertaken e.g. work experience and voluntary work. ORGANISED To bring all appropriate stationery, equipment and research information. Complete all homework, projects and assignments by the deadlines set. Systematic use of study time to follow up and consolidate work covered in class. It is expected that this happens during your timetabled sessions in the study centre. Guilsborough Academy Sixth Form Bursary Vulnerable Bursary The most vulnerable students, as defined in the EFA Guidance Document, are to receive a Vulnerable Bursary of up to 1,200 per year. This is payable each academic year the students are in education or training as long as they meet the criteria in further education or training would be required as well. Discretionary Bursary Fund Students may wish to apply for a discretionary Bursary for specific individual circumstances or are considered to be disadvantaged (within six years of receiving the Pupil Premium Fund). This type of bursary is targeted at those to overcome individual barriers they may have in regards to their education. As an Academy we can award whatever we deem necessary for the students to overcome these barriers (subject to funding). Eligibility Criteria To receive either the Vulnerable or Discretionary Bursary a student must be: Aged over 16 Aged under 19 at the 31 st August before the academic year in question (if a student turns 19 during their programme of study, they can continue to get a bursary to the end of the academic year in which they turn 19 or the programme of study ends.) Bursaries are payable subject to certain conditions in the Sixth Form Student Contract relating to attendance, behaviour and effort being maintained. The Academy has the right to withdraw or withhold payments if these standards are not being met, are absent for a continued period of time or if students withdraw from courses. Application Process Bursary Scheme applications are to be made to Mrs Ponting by the end of September 2017, along with the required evidence. The Academy will then process the application by mid-october 2017 and will advise students/parents, in writing, of the outcome. 8 FAQs... Guilsborough Academy Sixth Form Dress code Q: How long does my skirt/dress have to be? A: No shorter than 10cm above the knee, if above knee then tights of a natural colour or black must be worn Q: Are there any colour restrictions? A: Not as long as your clothes are smart and follow the dress code Q: What types of trousers can I wear? A: Smart tailored trousers/cigarette trousers, no jeans or shorts. Q: Can I wear denim? A: No denim is allowed at all Q: What types of top can I wear? A: A blouse or a hard collared shirt. No polo shirts or t-shirts. What you can wear Hard collared shirts (minimum requirement) Blouses (minimum requirement) Cardigans or knitted Jumpers over blouses/shirts Tailored trousers / cigarette trousers Skirt or a smart dress that is no shorter than 10cm above the knee. Anything above the knee and you must wear tights (natural or black) Formal shoes such as brogues and ankle boots. Tie or bow tie is optional (to be reviewed in July 2017) Suit jackets or blazers are optional Term 6 Only tailored shorts/chino s no shorter than 10cm below the knee. Plain in colour. Other dress code standards must comply. Examples of what you can wear Q: Do I have to wear a suit jacket/blazer? A: A suit jacket/blazer is optional. You can wear a smart knitted jumper or cardigan. No leather is allowed. Q: Do I have to wear a tie? A: A tie/bow tie is optional Q: Can I wear converse? A: No converse, canvas shoes or trainers to be worn. No open toed shoes.
