STUDENT FOCUSED BY DESIGN A Guide for Prospective Students
Letter from the President Brigham Young University-Idaho is a remarkable institution that has been dear to my heart since childhood. My father was asked to serve as this school s president when I was seven. Known then as Ricks College, BYU-Idaho profoundly shaped my life. It continues to do so today. In fact, three of my children have since attended school here and received great preparation for their lives as leaders in their homes, in their communities, and in the Church. As you consider where to pursue your higher education, I invite you to learn all you can about BYU-Idaho and then prayerfully decide if it is the right place for you. Sister Eyring and I love BYU-Idaho, and we love students like you even more. We rejoice in your goodness. We would be honored to welcome you to campus Student Focused by Design What makes the BYU-Idaho experience distinctive. Hometown Charm Why Rexburg is our favorite college town. A Spirit of Frugality How to pay for school. Academic Programs What academic programs and support we offer. BYUI Application What it takes to become a BYU-Idaho student. Best wishes, Henry J. Eyring President Family photo taken during President Henry B. Eyring s tenure at Ricks College Henry J. and Kelly C. Eyring s Family 1
GATHERING WITH THOSE WHO SHARE YOUR VALUES. ERICA PASS Senior, Nursing hometown: Clovis, California interests: Rock climbing, hiking, piano, reading, snowboarding, boating, on-campus scuba certification, intramurals and competitive sports, service activities manager, Institute, exercise classes, and the BYU-Idaho ping pong club. Gathering is a pervasive theme of the Lord s Church, especially in these latter days. It is the reason for BYU-Idaho s existence. We gather together to share and increase our spiritual strength. As the world s ways are becoming more distant from the Lord s ways, it s important to me to attend a school where students share similar values to me. I didn t choose BYU-Idaho so I could be shielded from the world, but rather so that I could strengthen and deepen my own morals by building off the strength of others. HENRY J. EYRING, CURRENT BYU-IDAHO PRESIDENT 3
A PLACE COMMITTED TO HELPING YOU REALIZE YOUR POTENTIAL. JOSEPH ANDERSON BYU-Idaho Biology Faculty, Anatomy & Physiology hometown: Rigby, Idaho interests: Any sport with a ball, fitness, lifting, high-intensity training, hiking, camping, family time, scouting, campus societies pre-chiropractic society, and profusion society. Teaching at BYU-Idaho gives me the opportunity to work with students in a coaching role, helping them begin to see their potential as well as what they need to do to reach it. at this university you will find a belief in the extraordinary potential of every student, no matter their educational background or life circumstances. PRESIDENT CLARK G. GILBERT, BYU-IDAHO PRESIDENT
PREPARATION THAT BUILDS SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE FOR THE REAL WORLD. JILL EVANS Student Development Managing Director hometown: Orem, Utah interests: Singing, playing piano and organ, walking, hiking, traveling, baking, reading, and taking on any good home improvement project. A big baseball fan. BYU-Idaho will help you discover how to learn for a lifetime, be a team player, act in faith, and be a leader in any setting. We offer tremendous opportunities for real-world experiential learning, and an army of people to help you succeed. [BYU-Idaho graduates] will be natural leaders who know how to teach and how to learn. Those graduates of BYU-Idaho will become and this is a prophecy that I am prepared to make and make solemnly those graduates of BYU-Idaho will become legendary for their capacity to build the people around them and to add value wherever they serve. PRESIDENT HENRY B. EYRING, BYU-IDAHO PRESIDENT
TEACHERS WHO CARE MOST ABOUT HELPING YOU SUCCEED. CODY WONG Sophomore, Accounting hometown: Honolulu, Hawaii interests: Working out at the campus gym, volleyball, basketball, hiking, ukulele and piano, competitive sports, surfing, body boarding, cookouts, and photography. The teachers at BYU-Idaho are just as proactive as you are. When you are willing to put in the time and effort, they will help you or find you the help you need through other sources. They care most about your success. The hallmark of this institution is readily apparent when visitors come to our campus and say, I can t believe how student-focused the faculty are, the staff are, all of the employees are. Here at BYU-Idaho, the students are and always will be the focus of everything we do. ELDER DAVID A. BEDNAR, BYU-IDAHO PRESIDENT
A HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATION AT A LOW COST. PRESTON DAVISON 2016 BYU-Idaho Graduate, Accounting Assurance Associate, PricewaterhouseCoopers hometown: Lorena, Texas interests: Social gatherings, guitar, fishing, and reading. Our path is one of consecration and deeper knowledge of the processes of learning and teaching. With that depth and that consecration will come new ways of learning and teaching that will yield a higher quality experience while requiring relatively fewer resources per student. BYU-Idaho is a spectacular value. My professors were incredible at creating an environment of learning and real-world preparation. These factors allowed me to gain a wonderful education where its value greatly exceeded the cost. ELDER KIM B. CLARK, BYU-IDAHO PRESIDENT
