6 Motor Coach Operator Trainee Examination # Salary: During the six (6) week training period the salary is $15.37/hr with benefits. Upon successful completion of the training program and a proficiency examination as prescribed by the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus Department, Motor Coach Operator Trainees are eligible to become probationary part-time Motor Coach Operators at rate of $16.55/hr with benefits. Requires: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Minimum 21 years of age at time of application. One year of recent, paid customer service work experience assisting and providing information to the public. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license. If hired, and prior to the first day of training, must possess a California Class A or B commercial driver permit with appropriate medical certification, passenger endorsement, and with no restrictions for weight, number of passengers or air brakes. Two years of recent, paid work experience performing mechanic work which has included troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or equipment. An Associate s degree or 60 semester units of college level or vocational school coursework in automotive technology or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required work experience. Possession of a valid class C driver license. Must obtain a class B commercial driver license or permit with appropriate medical certification prior to the first day of hire. Must obtain a valid class B driver license with passenger and airbrake endorsements within six months of date of hire. After one year of current, paid work experience with the City of Santa Monica, a Transit Mechanic I may be promoted to a Transit Mechanic II upon meeting the minimum qualifications of the Transit Mechanic II and with the recommendation of the appointing authority. Level II Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Five years of recent, paid, journey-level work experience performing mechanical maintenance and repair of buses, trucks, and heavy duty vehicles and equipment. Possession of a valid class B driver license with passenger and airbrake endorsements. Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a Master Transit Bus Technician (Tests H1-H8) is desirable.
