1 29 November 2018 Dear Parents/Carers Iceland Tour 2019: Reykjavik The Humanities Faculty at Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form is pleased to offer students the exciting opportunity to participate in a 5-day tour to Reykjavik, Iceland. This follows on from the previously successful tours to Europe that have taken place over a good number of years. Students who have participated in previous trips have always commented that this was the extra-curricular highlight of their time at school. Some students have left school with a life-long passion for travelling. The trip is being arranged through the services of NST Educational Tours. Iceland provides superb opportunities to look at both human and physical geography. During the tour, students will have the opportunity to explore the Thingvellir National Park, a site of historical, cultural and geological importance. They will also visit stunning waterfalls, erupting geysers and swim in the geothermal Olympic sized pool. This tour provides a wonderful opportunity for students to enhance their classroom studies first-hand. Students study volcanoes and earthquakes in Year 9 (KS3 geography), Year 11 (GCSE geography) and Year 13 (A Level geography). There are a limited number of 40 student places available based on a first come first served basis. The cost of the tour is 920 based on a minimum number of 40 students with payment being spread across 5 instalments. Details of the tour are as follows: Destination: 5 day tour to Reykjavik, Iceland inclusive itinerary Dates: Thursday 24 October 2019 to Monday 28 October 2019 (part of the half term) Day 1: Flight to Keflavik. Iceland coach transfer to Reykjavik hotel. Evening meal (first meal included dependent on flight timing). Day 2: Full day excursion to Golden Circle. Day 3: Full day excursion to South Shore. Day 4: Full day excursion of Reykjanes Peninsula Day 5: Breakfast (last meal included). Depending on time of return flight, there may be free time in the morning for local shopping. Transfer back to Keflavik airport for return flight. Parents/carers of students with nut allergies should be aware that this condition is largely unknown and therefore they may wish to speak to the school on this matter. Tour Cost: 920 per paying person, based on a minimum of 40 full paying persons Payment Instalments: First Deposit 200 payable by 14 December 2018 to secure a booking Second Payment 200 payable by 1 March 2019 Third Payment 200 payable by 3 May 2019 Fourth Payment 200 payable by 28 June 2019 Final balance 120 payable by 19 July 2019

2 Students will be provided with a school payment card as a receipt. Parents/carers may wish to pay the payment balances in weekly/monthly instalments; this may be done providing that the due payment instalments dates are met. Parents/carers may opt to pay the deposit, second, third and final payments using their debit/credit cards through the ParentPay website. Cheques should be made payable to Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form. Method of Travel: Return flight from London to Keflavik. Accommodation: 5 days (4 nights) in a 3 star hotel in 3/4 bedded accommodation for students we will be staying at 2 different hotels during the tour. Board Basis: Half Board Additional items included:- Insurance Government imposed APD (Air Passenger Duty) All airport taxes and security charges Return coach transport from Braintree to airport if not flying from Stansted (flights have not yet been released if we are travelling from Stansted then we would ask that students be dropped off/picked up at the airport) Coach transport on arrival and departure to and from accommodation Items not included:- Passport (ID numbers will be required by the end of May 2019; any student without a current passport will need to apply) Lunch each day Student spending money If you would like your child to have the opportunity to come on this tour, please could you complete the attached form and return it together with a 200 deposit in an envelope addressed to Miss Wilcox (Iceland Tour) via the trips box outside Student Services by no later than Friday 14 December We would like to point out that the deposit is not refundable unless less than 40 students choose to come on this tour. In this instance, all monies would be refunded in full. The school reserves the right to take a student s behaviour record into account when reserving a place and in the time before the trip leaves. NST Educational Tours reserves the right to alter any of the itinerary details.
