2 2 Administrative responsibilities Chairman, Department of Sociology, since 2014 Examinations Coordinator, PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE Joined Department of Social Services, Ministry of Culture and Social Services in 1981 after graduating from the University of Nairobi and served as a Community Development Officer as follows: Narok District 1982 Nandi District 1983 Garissa District South Nyanza District Responsibilities as district head of department from 1983 included coordinating and supervising the following departmental programmes: Community Development Women in Development Youth Development Social Welfare Sports Family Life Education Vocational Rehabilitation. At the same time I was responsible for providing managerial and leadership skills training for community development groups. CONFERENCES, SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS I have attended and presented papers at various learned conferences, seminars and workshops including the following: International Social Work Week Conference held at University of Applied Sciences, Wurzburg-Schweinfurt, Germany. 7 7 Member, Editorial Board of the Journal of Social Welfare and Human Rights of the American Research Institute for Policy Development since December Lead consultant in the evaluation of Korean Volunteer Organization s feeding programme at Got Matar Primary School, Bondo, Also served as a facilitator for the counselling sessions for students at Kenyatta University in the aftermath of the 2007 General Elections violence Was an associate researcher in the socio-economic impact component of the World Banksponsored project on the Northern Corridor Transport Improvement Project (NCTIP) conducted under the aegis of University of Nairobi Enterprises (UNES), Served as chairman of the Examination Board for the Diploma in Social Work at Embu Government Training Institute January 2000-December Served as a consultant and trainer in the Engendering the political process project, a gender empowerment project of the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation and the Women s Political Caucus for prospective women candidates in the 2002 General Elections, July- September I have participated in a series of gender sensitization training-of-trainers workshops organized by UNICEF for selected academic staff of Kenyatta University and subsequently facilitated such a series of such workshops for staff of the Kenya Institute of Education in RESEARCH ACTIVITY 2016, conducted a study: Eco-friendly dry-land agriculture and water technology for the improvement of food security and health in Kitui County. A Kenyatta University 2013/2014 Vice-Chancellors s Research Grants award. Currently supervising one MA student who is taking part in the study. EXTERNAL EXAMINATION From January 2017 I have been an external examiner for Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Maseno University.\ UNIVERSITY COMMITTEES I have also served on the following university committees as a member:
