9 BFA in Graphic Design: Program Revision 6 Introduction to the Program This broad-based professional program is intended to provide students with several options in the field of design and insures a strong foundational and interdisciplinary education leading to the development of a professional-level portfolio. All courses in graphic design stress the building of esthetic knowledge, perceptual awareness and creative problem solving, as well as developing a process approach that addresses practical and pragmatic requirements. The National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredit our program. The average number of majors in the graphic design program is between 40 and 50 students. In addition 8 10 students annually choose to augment another major with a minor in graphic design. Our classes are small, usually between students with the largest being art history courses, typically students each. Students graduate adequately prepared for entry-level positions in the field of graphic design or for further education within a graduate degree program. Since 2009, 97% of all students graduating with a BFA in graphic design are employed in the field of design. For additional information please visit the graphic design website at: pacificgraphicdesign.wordpress.com/ Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design A professional degree program that offers a balance of theoretical and practical skills complemented by the enriched experience of the liberal arts environment of Pacific. The goal of this degree is to develop skills, concepts, and sensitivities essential to professional graphic designers. Designed for students who are willing to engage in a rigorous undergraduate program m that provides preparation for professional life through internships, graduate studies, or entry-level opportunities in the arts and arts-related fields. Changes to the Program The field of Graphic Design is vast, ranging from layout to illustration, interactive work and online experience design. Currently, the Graphic Design program does not offer any choice within its class selection. Consequently, our students cannot focus

10 BFA in Graphic Design: Program Revision 7 in their studies in any one area of graphic design often requiring further development after graduation. In this revision, we are making our degree more flexible by designating a small number of core classes and leaving the remainder of design and art classes as electives. Additionally, we are reducing the total number of units required for this professional degree program from 136 to 126. Our proposed program requires 77 units in the major and 49 units outside of the major, resulting in 61% in the major and 39% outside of the major.
