FLG 202 Intermediate German II FLG 300 Introduction to German Literature FLG 316 German Lyric Poetry FLG 323 Twentieth Century German Literature * FLG 492 Senior Seminar in German Studies * Technology Fluency and Communication in the Major are corequisites with FLG 492. The major paper in FLG 492 must be written using (1) a word processing program; (2) on-line library references; (3) internet resources. All German Studies majors will submit two copies of their research paper for the FLG 492 senior seminar. One copy of the paper, as well as a faculty report on the student s oral presentation for the seminar, will be filed in the student s portfolio. The paper should be representative of the student s best work. FLG 492 must be taken at NC State. 2. Departmental Electives (6 hours): courses with a strong focus on building German language skills within cultural contexts: C- or better is required in each of these courses. Free Electives Students must take 29 hours of free electives, including any courses besides MA 101, FLx 101, LAT 101 and GRK 101 that have not been used to fulfill other requirements. The 100-level foreign language courses can be used as free electives if they are in languages other than the language the student uses to fulfill the major language requirement. Students are encouraged to elect additional courses from the lists provided in the Departmental Electives, FL/FLG Advised Electives I and II, Advised Electives I II, and to use their free electives for a minor. 12 hours of Free Electives may be taken for S/U credit, however, these courses can then not count for a minor. 8. Required Study Abroad/Internship Abroad Semester It is required that all German Studies majors participate in at least one regular semester of study abroad or internship abroad (3-4 months minimum) in a German-speaking country. Please note that no more than 15 hours of transfer credit (from study abroad, internship abroad, or from other US institutions) may be applied towards the core courses in German Studies (core: required courses, departmental electives, FL/FLG advised electives I and II, and advised electives I and II). Students are encouraged to pursue a minor in a second concentration of interest or a second major. College Requirement Footnotes 9. Courses in the major field of studies are excluded, therefore the following courses in this group may only be chosen if they are not used for the major field of study requirements: ARS 252, HA 401, MUS 310, MUS Credits. 13. Social Science and Social Science Elective Four 3-credit courses from 3 different social sciences on the approved GEP course list including: ANT, ARE, EC, PS, PSYCH, SOC. Also ENG 210, GEO 220, IDS 401, or STS 402. Six of the twelve social science credits must be chosen from the GEP Social Science list. 14. Foreign Language Completion of FLG 201 satisfies the FL_201 requirement. All students must take the NC State Proficiency Test upon entering CHASS. Students who take FL 101 and FL 102 will not receive graduation credit for these courses unless they are in a language other than the one used to fulfill the 201 1anguage requirement. 3 credits. * General Education Program (GEP) requirements and GEP Footnotes To complete the requirements for graduation and the General Education Program, the following category credit hours and co-requisites must be satisfied.
