Background o In the ageing society, the role and function of lifelong education has been essential to constructing a recurrent system between learning and work. Especially, it is time to set up an efficient and systematic lifelong vocational education system under the basic framework of integrating lifelong learning and work which can promote senior citizens' active participation in social and economic activities using their diverse capabilities. o Furthermore, as the paradigm has shifted from "beneficiary ageing" to "active ageing", it have been increasingly important to construct lifelong learning system focusing capacity building of senior citizens' human resources, the reinforcement of the mediation function of vocational and technical education market, and the enhancement of vocational education and training for senior citizens along with enhancing their accessibility of labor market knowledge and information. o In order to deal with these issues, it is urgently needed to understand and share lifelong learning policies and projects of major International Organizations and advanced countries. 1

Preparatory Work of Participants o Presenters, moderators, and debaters are requested to fill out and submit the registration form with the biography and a photo before 17 June, o The presenters are requested to prepare and submit a short report (not more than 4,000 words, MS office word format) and 40-minute long presentation file (PowerPoint compatible) to NILE (global@nile.or.kr) by before 17 July

3 o The debaters are requested to submit a short comments based on the paper of presenters' (not more than 1,000 words) by before 7 August, o The details of the work will be explained individually. 3

6 7. Travel and Accommodation o The flight ticket (economy class) of the presenters, moderators, and debaters will be booked by NILE based on the participants registration form. It will be a return air ticket to Seoul from the airport nearest by his/her residence. Travel arrangements will be made by NILE upon official acceptance of participation in the program. The travel advice (generally, e-ticket) will be directly sent to the invited participants by travel agency. The participants are expected to arrive at Icheon on 31st August and stay up to the end of the conference on 2nd September o The participants will be responsible for receiving the air ticket and make own arrangements for visa, if necessary, and other travel formalities. NILE does not supply: 1) any cost incurred for travel documents, etc. 2) any tax or fee for the participant's travel abroad in his/her country, nor 3) The per diem for stay during the conference. o Accommodations (single room) for the presenters, moderators, and debaters will be reserved by the Secretariat at the Hotel Miranda, Icheon ( according to the flight schedule. Room charge (room service, internet service and etc. are not included) and breakfast will be covered by NILE from 31 Aug to 2 Sep (3 nights). All the participants will stay at the hotel reserved by NILE for the whole duration of the program. 8. Passport and Visa Requirements o The participants should be in possession of a valid passport or travel documents. If the entry visa to Korea is required, please obtain it at the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Korea. NILE will provide official documents for visa application, if it is required. 9. Insurance and Health, Currency, and Climate o Insurance against accident, disability, or death during the programme is the 6

7 responsibility of the participants themselves. No responsibility for insurance or any other expenses such as the medical expenses, passport fee and airport tax will be assured by NILE or the Government of Korea. o The Republic of Korea s official currency is the won (KRW). The rate of exchange is approximately 1,076 Korean won to one dollar (USD) (based on the currency exchange rate on 31 May 2011). Banknotes come in denominations of 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 won, and coins in denominations of 10, 50, 100 and 500 won. Banks are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Credit card is also acceptable at hotel and major shopping malls. o Korea is in the temperate zone featuring four distinctive seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter. Icheon's yearly average temperature is 19.2 ºC (66.56 ºF). The weather in Icheon during the conference should be very pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 32.6 to 20.8 ºC (90 to 69 ºF) early in September. There is the possibility of rain during the conference, so you may need an umbrella. You may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater for the evening. 10.
