4 Starting the year off right- Link Crew Day- August 27 th First day of school for freshmen Assembly, games, groups, tours, meet teachers, go through schedule, lockers, have an upperclassman that is your Link Crew Leader, BBQ lunch

5 Pendleton High School Athletics Over 450 students participate in at least one sport at PHS Students involved in athletics and activities have better attendance and academic performance 19 Sports are offered at PHS divided into 45 total teams (varsity, jv, freshmen, etc)

6 High School Athletics OSAA requirements Enrolled in and passing five classes PHS requirements Must be at school all day to practice or play. Grade checks D s or F s, one week to get to a C

7 Clubs and Activities FFA, FBLA, Foreign Language Club, Key Club, Robotics Club, Literary Club, Speech and Debate Club, National Honor Society, GSA, Right to Life, SMILE, Technology Students Association, Leadership Class, Rugby Club, others Dress up days, Homecoming, Spring Fling, Dances, Coats for Kids, Penny Wars, other activities

8 Bell Schedule and Teacher Access 7 period day, 37/45 minutes each 5 minute passing time One lunch period Year divided into two 18-week semesters.5 credits for each class, each semester = 7 credits per year Teacher Access 30 minutes Monday thru Friday Time to study, go see teachers for extra help, make up assignments and tests. Teachers request students.

10 PHS Diploma Requirements Essential Skills Students must show they are proficient in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Pass Smarter Balance- OR Work Samples (2 for each area) OR Other PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP Tests (must meet certain scores)

11 Diploma options- Honors Diploma Standard Diploma Modified Diploma Extended Diploma Alternative certificate

17 College Entrance Requirements Language Arts 4 Mathematics 3 (through Alg. 2) Science 3 Social Studies 3 Foreign Language 2 (same language) High School GPA does matter!!!!!

18 College Credit Options Dual Credit PHS classes taught at our school by our teachers- We give grades Those grades go on student s BMCC or MHCC college transcript Typically transfers to Oregon state colleges some other $31 per credit Advanced Placement PHS classes taught at our school by our teachers- We give grades Students take AP test in May. Scored 1-6 College gives credit based on how high the student s score is. Usually 4, 5, or 6 gets college credit Test cost $89 Expanded Options College classes taught on their campus, or online College gives grades, goes on college transcript. PHS gives student credit towards high school diploma Typically transfers to Oregon state colleges some other Eastern Promise Credit by Proficiency PHS classes taught at our school by our teachers- PHS gives grades, or credit by proficiency through college Those grades go on student s college transcript. Typically transfers to Oregon state colleges some other $31 - per credit Cost FREE!

21 Forecasting plan Today- 8 th graders at PHS for Elective Visitations & Forecasting Meeting Tonight- 6:00pm meeting for students and parents at PHS Thursday high school counselors meet one-on-one with 8 th graders and input their choices Talk with your parents this week about electives, about goals for the future, about taking the hardest classes possible to help prepare for your future Schedules handed out during registration mid August
