5 Graduation Requirements Cohort 2021 Foundation High School Plan with Endorsements (26 credits needed to graduate/32 possible on block schedule) 4 credits of English 4 credits of Math Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, & One Additional Math 4 credits of Science Biology, Chemistry, Physics, & One Additional Science 4 credits of Social Studies World Geography or AP Human Geography, World History, US History, Government/Economics

6 Graduation Requirements (cont.) - Two credits of the same Foreign Language - One Fine Art credit - One PE credit - Health (half credit) - Five and a half Elective credits Focused on the student s chosen endorsement

7 Graduation Requirements Cohort 2021 End of Course Exams (STAAR/EOC) - English 1 - Biology - Algebra 1 - English 2 - US History

8 Credits Credits are awarded at the end of each semester. Each semester of high school you have the potential to earn 4 credits. You can earn a total of 8 credits for the entire school year (unless you are enrolled in a double blocked course such as band or athletics. Your total will be 7 credits). In order to earn a credit, you must receive a grade of 70 or higher and meet the 90% attendance requirement.

10 Endorsements Arts and Humanities A coherent sequence or series of courses selected from one of the following: -Social Studies (beyond the 4 required) - Foreign Language (LOTE) -Fine Arts such as Art, Dance, Band, Theater, Choir, or Orchestra Business and Industry A coherent sequence or series of courses from one of the following: -CTE Courses: Agriculture, Architechture, Audio Visual Technology, Business, Finance, Hospitality, Tourism, or Marketing English Electives: Public Speaking, Debate, or Adv. Broadcast Journalism including newspaper and yearbook Public Services A coherent sequence or series of courses from one of the following: -CTE courses with a final course from the Education & Training, Government & Public Administration; Health Science; Human Services including Cosmetology; or Law & Public Safety -JROTC STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) A coherent sequence or series of courses from one of the following: -CTE Courses with a final course from the STEM career cluster -Computer Science -Mathematics/Science (beyond the 4 required of each) Multidisciplinary A coherent sequence or series of courses from one of the following: -Four credits in each of the foundation core areas (Science, Math, English, Social Studies) -Four AP or Dual Credit courses from English, math, science, social studies, economics, LOTE, or fine arts *All students fulfill the requirements for this endorsement

11 GPA and Class Rank GPA=Grade Point Average Your GPA is based on the classes you take and the semester grades you make in those classes. Grade Range Letter Semester Grade AP/DC Core PreAP/Honors Level and All Other Courses A B C D Below 70 F Class Rank is based on a student s weighted GPA. - Colleges look at both GPA and Class Rank!

12 Naviance Web-based resource for students and parents that encourages and supports high school, college, and career planning Contact your current counselor for login information Access the Naviance website from the ORHS College and Career Counseling page Username/password = ID#/ID#

13 Scholarship Opportunities Get scholarships from colleges for your achievements in high school Additional scholarship information is available in their Naviance account Choose colleges tab, scroll down to scholarship list, filter by 9 th grade and scholarship list will appear

14 Get involved! Clubs and Organizations Build your high school resume. Colleges look at your extracurricular involvement. It makes high school more fun and enjoyable. You can find a list of clubs and organizations on the ORHS website.

15 Tutorials Tutorials are available for all core classes (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) and foreign language. Schedule will be posted online, on teacher web site, or hard copy is in the Counseling/AP offices. Tutorials are recommended and suggested for any student who needs help.

16 Parent /Teacher Conferences To set up: call or your student s Counselor or the secretary in Counselor s office. Parent may request all teachers or core teachers. Students will attend to be an active participant it s all about them! Conferences are generally scheduled before or after school.

18 Building Resilience Let them problem solve -- begin to move outside of their comfort zone Encourage risk-taking -- give them some freedom to learn limits Let them make mistakes -- they will learn how to keep pushing through Model -- when you make a mistake, admit it and allow them to see you work through it Be supportive -- but do not do it for them 8/30/16

Parent Access Center Parent Access Center is available through the CISD website to enable parents to monitor grades, attendance, and discipline.

20 Parent Access Center Parent Access Center is available through the CISD website to enable parents to monitor grades, attendance, and discipline. -In PAC you will receive s to electronically approve your student s Advanced Course Agreement, 4 year plan and endorsement. -You will receive Progress Reports through PAC rather than a paper copy. Parents need the student ID number to establish an account.

21 Student Access Center Encourage your student to be up-to-date with his/her own progress. Have them log in daily to see the updated grades and/or missing assignments. This strengthens communication between student and teacher and fosters self-advocacy.
