2 Introduction Goal to provide useful information that will assist high school age athletes in their preparation and transition to College Sting /Titans takes much pride in its long-standing tradition of assisting in the placement of thousands of student-athletes at the collegiate level. A large percentage of our membership aspires to continue playing soccer whilst studying for an undergraduate degree. We strive to educate & assist to make this dream a reality.

3 Introduction Note whilst there are general guidelines, rules, regulations and proposed timelines in place; the recruitment process is not the same for everybody (athletes or college coaches) There are many things outside of your control that can have a significant impact on the opportunities and scholarship aid that may be presented Be educated, be organized and be proactive in the areas that you can control

11 The Recruiting Process STEP 1 - RESEARCH Start to consider some of the following factors for a potential college as early as 9th grade: Division of Play (NCAA I, NCAA II, NAIA, NJCAA) in line with a realistic evaluation of playing ability Location of School Academic Programs Offered Cost of Tuition, Accommodation and Meal Plan Size of School Academic Standards at School or Acceptance Religious Affiliation

12 The Recruiting Process STEP 2 MAKE A LIST Having considered some of these, 9th graders should start to compile a list of around collegiate programs that meet the desired criteria; Include 5-7 long shots or dream schools Include Realistic schools Include 5-7 Backup Schools

13 The Recruiting Process STEP 3 CONTACT COLLEGE COACHES Regular usually most effective (Once per month) Copy coaches in all communication State interest in college program Inform College Coach of schedule for club and high school Include field location, number and opponent Include jersey numbers, photo and anticipated position of play Telephone Calls

14 The Recruiting Process STEP 4 COLLEGE VISIT Official Visit Paid for by the school Allowed only five Can start after July 15 going into Senior Year in H.S. Unofficial Visit Unlimited Can take any time Soccer Camps Be selective! Not all flyers = schools are interested! Tour the campus, meet with admissions etc.

15 The Recruiting Process STEP 5 FOLLOW UP Let the coach know what you thought of visit Inform coach if you d like to continue to stay in contact Rank visits personally to track what you liked, did not like and where the school fits overall based on the factors important to YOU!

16 Communication Rules DIVISON 1 Student-Athlete can call College Coach Anytime Coach cannot call a recruit until after July 1 of Senior year in HS Student-Athlete can College Coach Anytime College Coach cannot return until Junior Year in HS Parent / player should not approach College Coach at showcase or tournament

21 Communication QUICK TIP! College Coach is recruiting the Student-Athlete NOT the PARENT of the Student-Athlete Student-Athlete should be at the forefront of all communication in , over phone or physically. Do not overstep as a parent. Coaches want to learn about their recruit!
