MYSTERY OF THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER Class of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 16 Core Course Requirements for DI 14 Core Course Requirements for DII* *Class of 2013 and beyond require 16 Core Courses Only 1 core course can be made up over the summer AFTER graduation provided the PSA graduates with their class on time.

MYSTERY OF THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER As of August 1, 2010 Online credit recovery classes for Division 1 become very difficult to have accepted.

MYSTERY OF THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER 1. Courses that are taught through distance learning, online, credit recovery, etc. need to be comparable in length, content and rigor to courses taught in a traditional classroom setting. Students may not skip lessons or test out of modules. The course must be four-year college preparatory. 2. All courses must include ongoing access between the instructor and student, as well as regular interaction for purposes of teaching, evaluating and providing assistance. This may include, for example, exchanging of e-mails between the student and teacher, feedback on assignments, and the opportunity for the teacher to engage the student in individual instruction. 3. Any course taken must have a defined time period for completion. For example, it should be clear whether the course is meant to be taken for an entire semester or during a more condensed time frame, such as six weeks, etc. 4.Nontraditional courses should be clearly identified as such on the high school transcript. Source:NCAA

Core Course Requirements 4 years of English for DI / 3 years for DII 3 years of Math for DI / 2 years for DII 2 years of Natural/Physical science (one must be a lab science) 1 year of additional English, Math or Science for DI / 2 years for DII 2 years of Social Studies 4 years of Additional Core Courses/3 years for DII Confusing and Time Consuming!!!

Transcript WILL NOT be reviewed unless a NCAA college has you on their Institutional Request List (IRL) You can not take an official recruiting visit until you register with the EC. Specific core course and SAT/ACT requirements.

NCAA and NAIA ELIGIBILITY NAIA EC www.playnaia.org $60 registration fee Freshman MUST meet two of the following three entry level requirements: Minimum 18 on the ACT or 860 on the SAT(not counting written part of exam.) Minimum overall high school gpa of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale. Graduate in the top half of your high school class.

SCHOLARSHIP FACTS 3% of high school student athletes receive a scholarship Less than 1% realize a 4 year DI scholarship 26% of kids who enter college on an athletic scholarship, are no longer on an athletic scholarship by the start of their sophomore year 80% of scholarship/financial assistance opportunities are NOT on the D1 level

SCHOLARSHIP MYTH There is no such thing as a 4 year Full Ride ALL athletic scholarships are 1 year renewable deals.

NEGOTIATE Cooperative Education JUST ASK!!!!!

Scholarships Do they differ? NCAA D1 Men - Football D1(FBS)/Basketball D1 may not be divided does not guarantee 100% funding. Women Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Tennis may not be divided does not guarantee 100% funding. (head count sports) NCAA D2 ALL SPORTS may be divided (equivalency) NCAA Division 3 NO SCHOLARSHIPS (ask for financial aid) NAIA Scholarships may be divided JUCO D1, D2 Baseball 24, Football 85, Golf 8, Hockey 16, Soccer 18, Lacrosse 20 JUCO D3 (no scholarships) Source: NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA

WHAT IS THE NLI? National Letter of Intent 612 D1 and D2 schools are members It is voluntary Provides a 1 year guarantee* Stops the recruiting process

Have your kids ask this question. If the college you are researching did not offer your sport.would you still consider attending that school?

Feeling Overwhelmed? Don t Panic That is normal

My guidance counselor is stretched thin. ASCA recommends counselor to student ratio should be 180-1. National average is 500-1.

No problem. My guidance counselor does this stuff. Roughly 33% of student body play sports Counselor works with 165 athletes 3% will receive scholarship..5 kids That represents 1% of the kids an average counselor works with

Problem. My guidance counselor is stretched thin. Take Control
