Directory of Extra-Curricular Activities and Educational Visits Spring Term 2019 ERASMUS DARWIN ACADEMY EXCELLENCE FOR ALL 1

INTRODUCTION Even though we have a strong tradition of delivering academic excellence at EDA, we are not an examinations factory or a qualifications conveyor belt. We also have a sharp focus on broadening the horizons and skills-sets of students, through participation in extra-curricular activities and visits. Increasingly at the academy, we believe that what happens out of the classroom, in terms of developing our young people into well-rounded citizens, is just as important as what happens in the classroom. This directory gives you a flavour of the extensive range of high quality extra-curricular activities and educational visits that are on offer to our students. Some visits and activities are part of our PFL Days*, some are integral to particular subjects or examinations, whilst others simply exist for the purpose of personal enrichment. All of our visits and extra-curricular activities provide highly enjoyable experiences that challenge students, broaden their horizons and broaden their skills-sets. In terms of our extra-curricular activities, our students have amazing opportunities to develop their skills, talents and expertise in the realms of sport, art, photography, music, acting, singing, dancing, computing, technology, baking, gardening just to name a few! The autumn term s timetables of extra-curricular activities can be seen on pages 3 and 4 and you can find a complete list of all activities on offer in 2018-19 on page 5. With regards to educational visits, we have a vast array of local, regional, national and international opportunities, from Chasewater to Iceland! An overview of the full range of visits currently scheduled for the 2018-19 academic year can be found on pages 6-8. However, please note that, as the academic year progresses the list will grow considerably as staff organise and plan even more fantastic opportunities for students to become involved with and experience. Finally, it is important to note that the number and range of educational visits and extra-curricular visits available grows year on year, due to the incredible dedication of Academy staff. Consequently, EDA will continue to be a school where excellence in extra-curricular provision is the norm. *PFL stands for Preparation For Life and these days offer are enrichment activities with a clear focus on Careers and employability. 2
