Dave Smith - Before becoming Illinois Family Institute s executive director in late 2006, David worked at IFI as a senior policy analyst for 4 years. From , David worked as an aide to a City of Chicago Alderman. During that time, he was a decency advocate for the group Citizens for Community Values of Illinois, filing 70 indecency complaints over a period of four years with the FCC against a shock jock. His efforts resulted in fines totaling $300,000 against the radio station owner. David led the 2006 Protect Marriage Illinois project, filing more than 347,000 names at the Illinois State Board of Elections. Unfortunately, county employees discredited almost 70% of the names from the Cook County jurisdiction, bringing the final count to less than the required number needed. An alumnus of the Family Research Council's Witherspoon Fellowship, Dave graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a B.A. in Political Science in He and his wife of 21 years are the parents of seven young children. Hear Dave at the Opening Session Friday at 9:00 am Ambassadors for Christ: Engaging the Culture Christian citizens have a biblical duty to engage the culture around us for the glory of the Lord. Our absence from the public square has resulted in devastating consequences for families and communities throughout the state and nation. Is it right for Christians to expect to receive God s blessings of liberty, yet give nothing in return? What lessons can we learn from Scripture about our role in the public square? The Bible is not silent about the God s instruction for cultural engagement.
